Hate to see it.  Like I tell my wife.  It is real.  My friend Emilo was murdered around Xmas last year.  We have taken our security seriously since.  Even my wife is on board now.  It changes things when you know the people or it is close to home.

I wonder if this is the same guy that tried to get in a coworkers house in that area.

A few weeks ago my coworker's husband was working nights. He was sleeping and

was awakened by the door bell. He thought it was odd and got up. He then heard the

door knob on his back door rattling. He grabbed a Machete and opened the door.

A fella was standing there with rather wide eyes, the punk started mumbling that

he thought his friend lived there and he took off. There was another person sitting in

a car around the front of the house with the engine running. The punk jumped in

the car and they took off. The husband could not get a tag #.

I hope these punks get lead poisoning soon

Any idea how they're getting into the houses?  Are they looking for unlocked doors, breaking windows around back...?  Have some fiends in Polk County and I'd like to pass along as much info as possible.

I hear they are targeting the elderly... Shut off power to the home and clip phone cable. I installed 5 motion light around my grandparents home last week! Also put master locks on the power boxes! If they do get in and Grandpa hears it... He will have 15 holes in him about the size of a 9mm hollowpoints!

They probably case the victims the day before to see when lights out. Then turn off the power and go in. One in get away car and one inside.

Hope someone exercises Castle Doctrine soon!!!

3/4 of the way down, the sentence in red says it all...as it should be.

Winter Haven, Florida - There's a manhunt underway in Polk County.
Polk County Sheriff's deputies are working overtime and have beefed up
their patrols, hoping to catch the person responsible for half a dozen
home invasions in Lakeland.

From May 7 through Sunday, May 22, a man has been  breaking into
houses during the middle of the night while homeowners are sleeping. He
has hit homes on Chestnut Road, Old Highway 27, North Wabash Avenue,
Kathleen Road, Galloway Road and Sutton Road.

Sheriff Grady Judd says the suspect always carries a gun and demands
cash, credit cards, cell phones, jewelry, ATM cards and prescription
drugs. He's even forced victims to drive him to an ATM machine so they
could withdraw cash for him. Sheriff Judd says during the last break in
on Sutton Road, the suspect turned violent.

One victim is grandmother. She spoke to 10 News. She does not want to
reveal her identity since the suspect has not been caught. She believes
the suspect was inside her house for some time before he woke her up.

She says, "I didn't realize it until the flashlight was in my eyes.
All I could think was I want to see my grandkids again and I want to
stay alive so I did what he told me to do."

She says he took jewelry she will never be able to replace because it
was given to her by her husband who has passed away. "It was my wedding
set. I was married for 35 years."

Judd says, "He's been polite except for the very last robbery, where
the lady made him mad when she refused to go to the ATM and he struck
her in the face with a handgun. He's carried a handgun on every one of
the robberies. Even though he's been polite with words, how violent do
you have to be with a gun in your face? Quite frankly, we've got to
catch this guy sooner rather than later."

The sheriff's office has placed automated calls to the area where the
home invasions have happened, which is in the northwest area of
Lakeland. That's where five of the break-ins occured.

Investigators do not believe the suspect is acting alone. They
believe a person waits outside in a getaway car until the home invasion
is over.

Sheriff Judd adds, "We believe that he is canvassing these areas
prior to his robberies so it's important for neighbors to look out for
suspicious persons, for suspicious vehicles in the area, to call 911 if
they see anything suspicious so we can rush out there. We want the
public to know that they have the right to use deadly force in their
house.
"

Detectives don't have a description of the getaway vehicle or the
person driving it but there is a vague description of the main
suspect responsible for the break-ins. They say he's black, in his 20's,
wears black clothing, a hoodie style sweatshirt, a dust mask that
covers his mouth and nose as well as gloves.

The victim says, "He was very soft spoken. 'I don't want to hurt you lady. I just need money.'"

In two home invasions, the suspect disconnected the electricity and phone lines before breaking in.
