Hi

Are ATV's required to be registered and insured in Texas?
If so, any idea how much each will cost me?

thanks

The only place I've heard of tags and such is on the beachs in Galvaston and Corpus.
If you finace it then more than likley they'll make you have INs.

If you are going to ride in Texas Parks and Wildlife areas then you need a Texas OHV Decal. You can find the info here: www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/ohv/ride.phtml

If you plan to ride on US Forestry Service land then you can only ride it at the Sam Houston National Forest area. Info here: www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/

If you are riding on private land then just be safe.

Insurance is always a good thing to have on ATV's...which reminds me I need to get some on the Can-Am before to much longer!

I have insurance on my yfz450 thru progressive.  couple hundred bucks for the year, I think.  (no tags, no plates)

its a "factory racing quad", so I'd guess that it might be a little more than a regular 4wheeler.  who knows.

If you think BRD is bad, wait until you buy a quad.

If you own property they will cover collision.

I bought a Grizzly in 2003 and financed it thru Yamaha only because it was 6 months at 0%.  I paid it off after 5.   No insurance was required.

No insurance is required by the state but as bigdozer said, it might be at some parks.  I don't ride parks so I don't know.   I have a lot of friends who insure theirs for theft.  Mine stays shut up in the garage in my house and my alarm system is always on so I don't do that either.  If you are going to let a lot of others ride it, get insurance.  If not and your not worried about theft, it's no big deal.
