Ok sorry guys newb clarification needed.    The AWB in NYS doesnt apply to my AR, since none of it, including hi-cap mags were purchased in NYS?

Not to mention I will just be on leave, coming from an AWB friendly state, and will have proof of my leave.

I have not been able to find any specifics on this.  Any help will be appreciated, just tell me what i want to hear.

NYS law is on possession and it doesn't matter where you purchased it. Unless you are covered by Federal law and just passing through the state with minimal stopping then it's not legal if it falls under the AWB. Do you have a pre-ban rifle and/or one that meets the old Federal AWB standards? If so then you are good to go. Same goes for the mags...if they are greater than 10 and made after 94 then it's a felony.

ok...14.5" m4 barreled upper with permanently attatched compensator(making it 16"), collapsible buttstock, pistol grip, 30 rd mag....what would i be able to do to make it legal? 10 rd mag...fixed stock...then would i be good?

I don't know about being GOOD...

but with PERMANENTLY non-adjustable stock
and
post-ban mags PERMANENTLY limited to 10 or fewer catridges

you'll at least be LEGAL (for the time being, that is)

because (to the tune of 'Santa Claus is comin' to town'):

hile,
no, no bayo lug either.  I'm not gonna waste my time with it, I'll save the ammo for when I get back to a state with some common sense.

Unless he does something really stupid or the bulk of the citizens of the Empire State change from blue to red overnight, the Sheriff of Wall Street (aka Eliot Spitzer) will be elected governor in 2 short weeks. And riding his shirt tail is the Boy Wonder Andrew Cuomo who is going to be attorney general unless the dims drink the coolaid.

Bad news for friends of the RKBA in NYS. It might even get worse than it is already here in Jersey.

The now expired federal AWB is a perminant NY state law. You must comply with the provisions of the AWB in order to be legal in NY. Think pre ban and post ban and you'll be all right.

Something could be done if the millions of gun owner's in NY would get involved in the political process in NY. As it stands right now it is critical that gun owner's vote to elect/reelect enough Republican Senators to remain the majority party in NY. Politicians blow like the wind. If the Republicans were to gain additional seats by defeating anti-gun Dimowits it would send a clear message to the other Dimowits to back off on anti-gun legislation.

If only they weren't outnumbered.  I feel sick when I think about what the future holds sometimes.  Would it help if we brought back the draft? lol.
