If I'm in the lane that says "Left Turn Only"
Am I required by law to turn on my left turn signal? How bout a right turn? I've wondered this for a long time.....everybody seems to do it, but it seems kinda redundant It's already pretty damned obvious you're turning. Wouldn't you think that as soon as you entered the lane, it became your only possible course, and you were bound by law to turn. |

Other than common courtesy, it get's people's attention that you're turning there.
A little off-topic, there was a car in Kalamazoo that would use the left turn lane as an excuse to get ahead of other traffic at traffic lights. At a red light, if the left turn lane was empty, the driver would choose that lane, and when the signal changed, he would floor it and merge back into the straight lane. Someone with a dash cam filmed him several times, and posted the collection of incidents on youtube. |
