A mate has been trying to access AR15.com having been able to do so for some time without any problems. Recently, whenever he tries to access the site the internet explorer browser comes up with a page saying that Internet Explorer cannot display the page. I believe he is getting his internet access provided by BTSky. Anybody heard of any problems accessing the site? Is this a problem that is likely to be a result of his computer settings or do some providers blocks certain sites? |

Most ISP’s use proxy servers to speed up their clients internet connections, albeit these operate transparently to the end user. What happens is the proxy server has corruption in the cache for those pages and then fails to return them correctly. You can prove this by using a different proxy, there are some web based ones you can try such as youhide Put the page through this and see if the fault goes with it Sites like this are used to bypass perimeter security on corporate networks. Not that I should suggest you try this as I spend a lot of my time combating this kind of behaviour and taking people to task over internet misuse hinking.gif |

Had a similar problem with Orange Broadband but only on my connection; ie I could access AR15.com through another Orange Connection. The problem became apparent when one day AR15.com was available and the next day it was not. Reported it to the Orange help desk in the far east and was asked to check a plethora of settings on my PC to no avail, I knew it was not my PC but they would not believe me. I finally managed to escalate the call further up the chain and a few days later I was able to connect again, the whole process took about two months. The problem is probably not at your end but in the connection route from your PC through your ISP and onto AR15.com. Try doing a ping test to see how far the site connection request gets. |

Thanks folks. I've passed the info on and he is going to speak to his ISP to try and identify the source of the problem. I'm supprised that anyone would want to block the site......after all there is basically just a load of good natured banter....hardly subversive. Thanks again. |
indede but their izz alsow a lot ov badh speelingh |
Sounds like a load of Bull from Bangalore. All they have to do is flush their proxy cache. Bunch of Muppets Alas though you pay peanuts for your internet connecting and it’s the service that ultimately suffers. You rarely get something for nothing |

I recently had exactly the same problem and contacted my ISP (Virgin Media) who told me that it was most likely that the ARFCOM server would not accept their protocols. I asked around other Virgin Media users and found that to be total bollocks. I called Virgin again (at 25p a minute) and told them so, and that I use this site a lot and if I can't get access I will be changing my ISP to one that would. Having reconsidered my proposal the chappie talked me through altering some of my internet settings and all was well with the World again...... |
