So, I own some land in eastern Oregon. I have a small cabin on it that is about 150 feet from the road that fronts it.
Two times now there has been people driving down the road spotlighting and shooting rabbits. Doesn't matter where the rabbits are. In the middle of the road or on my property they shoot anything that moves. Now, I don't care about the rabbits so much as I care about the safety of myself and my property. This happens at 9:30 or 10:00 at night When I'm trying to sleep. What can I do to stop this? Comfronting a group of people at night alone is not something I'm eager to do. Not sure if talking to the Sherrifs Department will do much. Then there is the possibility of some kind of retribution. Any suggestions? |
| Build a gate and use it. Meaning don't leave it open because it's inconvenient . Shouldn't need to be anything fancy but it should be something that is clear to all man made with a clearly marked sign of no trespassing or no shooting. If you use something too simple like just dragging a small downed tree across the entrance, it could be mistaken as a simple fall down and be moved by the shooters. Something blatantly man made may make the shooters stop and think about there actions. Plus it does help show intent if law enforcement is called. |

get a couple sheet of Plywood and paint a sign asking people not to shoot along your frontage? most people are not assholes on purpose, just nobody points it out anymore. Quoted:

Game camera that takes video at night. Get the LC plate take the video into your local authorities. Do these two things. That way you've covered both bases and don't have to wonder if you did the right thing. It is legal to spotlight rabbits at night on private property but only with landowner permission. Or at least that's what the deputy explained to me while over there. (Yes I had permission...I just called "the Man" to verify legality )

I was thinking of setting up game cameras. The signs however I'm sure will just get shot. I thought also of installing a pine pole fence along the front of the property. My cabin 150' from the road should make one realize that it is private property but I guess some people just don't care. |
