Hey y'all! I know you get these types of questions a lot so sorry.

The wife and I will be in London from Dec. 29th to Jan 1 (rail from Paris) and we'll be staying in a hotel in Kensington. How is that area of town? Does it get crazy in London for New Years? Any places I should avoid?

Sorry, never done new year in London.  But there's usually quite a congregation at Big Ben for the rining in of the new year.

I hope you will have a good time!!!

Kensington is a nice enough part of London, plenty to see, (great museums) and do with excellent shops, the post Christmas sales will have started!

Keep a firm weather eye on your valuables in London, especially over the new year period, pickpockets abound, especially Roma ones. If some little kids come up pestering you, be on your guard and immidiately check behind you, the kids are a distraction tactic while you're pockets and bags get rifled.  Get a money belt and wear it inside your shirt, tell your wife to use a zip up shoulder bag and to wear it bandolier fashion so she can keep and arm over it..

Adding to that re Roma children -

If you are in a cafe and they come in asking you for directions before spreading a map over your table - be aware they will have a hand UNDER the map stealing whatever you have on the table like cash / camera / phone etc

They usually strike just as you are putting the cash in the little plate for the bill.
