I might be moving to Alaska (as some of you might know).  I lived in Hawaii for three years and had to put up with the "I hate white man" angry violent local types.  Do the native alaskans have that same attitude?  Also, for those in Anchorage, where are the best schools and what not?
Thanks

Does this mean you have made up your mind or just leaning this direction?

One thing I can tell you is that I have moved to distinct different geographic locations six times and have always faced the you weren't born here attitude.  I can also tell you that I adapted quickly and the attitude went away.  When I moved from TX to Cleveland, I got sick of the Texas sterotypes and wanted to punch every asshole that said "I don't want any Teaaaaxas bullshit."  Hell, it didn't matter that I wasn't originally from Texas at all.  You've been around and you will adapt. Most I've seen up there are white so you will be OK unless you where your star and bars.

For the most part, the Alaska natives are friendly.  You'll run into the occasional "the white man screwed us over" type, but not often.  I can't help with the school question since my kids haven't been in the school system for some years.  If you don't mind cold weather and long winter nights, you'll love Alaska.  The summer is your bonus with warm temps and alot of daylight.

Alaska is looking better than colorado right now.  Better chance of a good offer.  Austin is looking good, too.  I have lived all over as well.  I encountered more hostility and hatred in Hawaii than I did in Germany living on the economy.  I have moved all over as well.  The hunting, fishing, great outdoors aspect of Alaska is hard to pass up.
The last frontier.

I will try to look up the school info, but my son is in homeschool so I may not be much help.  Avoid Mountainview and Fairview. The south end of town is generally a better area.

I have never met an Alaska native that has an attitude about white people so if it exists, it is hidden well.  My roommate is from Hawaii so I know what you are talking about - you damn howlie(sp?).  If anything, the white man is the offender, assuming all the Eskimos are worthless and drunk.  It is just true enough that the stereotype lives on.

We have people from all over and nobody really seems to care where you are from other than the occasional accent mimicking.  Say Ya'll once and you will hear it said back to you a hundred times .  If you have no accent or a weak accent, they will assume you are local.

Look me up if you make it here.

Well you get the picture.
I am thinking of locations a little bit outside of town.  I would probably be working a shift in Northern alaska (but not the slope).  14 and 14.  So I don't have to worry about the commute.  My wife is a little bit nervous, so I will have to clear out fields of fire for her RRA M4gery.  Maybe some tactical wire and claymores.  Fougasse near the front door.

When is Salmon season?  I love smoked salmon.

The Kings start running in May and run through June.  The Silvers and Reds come in right behind them.  Halibut season runs from May through September, at least that's when most of the charter boats run.  The hunting starts about the end of August, so everyone is pretty busy till the snow flies, usually around the middle of October.  Although these past few winters have been very strange, very little snow and unseasonably warm temps.

SWEET!
I am not sure if I am up for hunting.  Despite having no problem shooting people, killing animals unless I need the meat seems senseless.  I don't begrudge hunters.  Its a skill I am glad I have.  I just like going out, stalking, and then letting bambi go on his/her merry way.  Unless there is overpopulation, I just as soon let em go.  But fish.  Let the blood fly!  I guess a moose makes sense.  One kill, LOTS of meat.  Packing it out has got to suck, though.  Bring in the ATV!
Regardless.  alaska sounds awesome.
