I just got to Hawaii this weekend and so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm searching hard for a place to live, so if any of you are in the real estate business and know of places to rent please shoot me an IM. I'm open to any advice about where to/not to live around the Pearl/Ewa/Aiea area too, so if anybody has any pointers I'm willing to listen. I've figured out there is only one range on the entire island of Oahu, so that sort of sucks. I didn't bring any of my guns, but after I get settled and jump through the registration hoops I'll be shipping some over. |
| What is your price budget? I personaly like the pearl city/aiea area. Try to stay away from ewa beach too much trafic and its hot. In aiea along moanalua rd right across pearl ridge there is alot of appartments for rent I lived in pearl ridge towers and garden for 4yrs. It was a good location other than the bad street parking, some of the rentals only come with one parking space and since I had two cars parking was always a pain for me. Pearl city does not have too many appartments mostly town homes and single family homes. |

I'm looking mostly for townhomes/duplexes or single family homes (though I can't really afford any of the single family ones I've seen). I found a great place at the top of pearl city I'm going to go look at tomorrow, it has a two car garage which is a huge plus to me. I spent the better part of a day looking in the Ewa area and wasn't too impressed, but it seems hard to find places up on the ridges for my price range. I have too much stuff to live in an apartment or condo, I'm used to 2-3 BR houses. I also have a motorcycle I don't want vandalized or stolen so a garage is pretty much a must. |

Are there any other local rental sites I should check out? Mahalo. Um...Midweek, Honolulu Advertiser, & Buy And Sell Add those are the only ones I can think of right now. Also try looking in the Palisades area its located right above Pearl City and is a nice area. |

Be thankful; 1850 will get you a shoe-box with cable and electric in downtown Hono.
I'm living in a 500 square foot apartment with no utes for 1.1k a month. Anyway, welcome and keep searching craigslist. That's how I ended up with my (tiny) current housing situation. |

Even though their commercials are cheesy you should check out The Waterfront at Pu'uloa. It is former Navy Housing, and as a result is a pretty military-friendly community, there is even a mini-Nex on site with a gas station. It is hotter in Ewa, but with a house near the water (which they have) you get a nearly constant breeze that negates that. The houses are pretty old, and have absolutely no insulation (basically just plywood) but they are large, and have large yards. The traffic is bad, but much better than it used to be. There is also a ferry that runs between Pearl Harbor and the small Navy base just outside the main gate during the week, it only takes 10 minutes to make the trip.
Anywhere you live in Hawaii is going to be a compromise, it will either be too small, too expensive or too far away from work, you just have to decide which things you are willing to compromise. For my part having the beach be literally out my back door is totally worth the traffic. Good luck. |

In fact I had made up my mind that I was going to move there and was sick of searching, so I filled out my app, got some money orders, and drove out there. The guy I had been dealing with was off that day and the other two in the leasing office were clueless and unhelpful. There was one more place that I was interested in that I hadn't looked at, and once I did I made the decision to move where I am now. I found a place in Aiea, way up on the hill. I have a fantastic panoramic view of Pearl from my window, it's a single family home, and I have pretty much everything I would like (except a garage, do have a carport). The big thing was it's much cooler up here with the wind always blowing through, and it's at most a 10 minute drive for me to work, vs. the 30 minutes to an hour+ from Iroquois point. The "grey boat" water taxi sounded cool, but my duty hours start an hour before its first trip so I would pretty much be stuck always driving. They're bringing my HHG in a couple of days, I'm excited to get moved all the way in. |
its free rent.
