Anybody know much about this little place?

It's a small community just outside the Clear AFS gate.  It has a pretty nice range near the end of the main road.  Other than that, there's nothing there.

Anderson is farther into the middle of nowhere than anybody wants to move to on purpose.

Sounds like my kind of place. Im not a big fan of society in general. I just saw some land up there for sale so I was curious. Ive been through there I guess , just never paid much attention.

ETA: Seeing exactly where it is I guess I havnt been through there

They have a bluegrass festival there every year that draws a big crowd.  Also, Nenana and Healy aren't far away for necessaries.   There is a burger joint nearby, I can't recall the name but It is supposed to be really good; It was at one time on the Parks highway but due to a road re-route it is now off to the side and seems to not be as popular.

You might check they have been giving land away to encourage people to move there

Might find some for free with a little work

You might also want to check the average winter temps and heating oil costs.

There is probably a reason.

It's still free though. I would love to have some of that land they gave away back in the day, i believe it's now Palmer?

Fairbanks is the closest city of any size.  A little over an hour away.   Good place to get groceries and other supplies.  Winters are colder than a witches titty. Much like Fairbanks with a lot of snow.  Someone here reminded me of the land give away.  I don't know if it still goes on, but hell yeah.  It would be worth the effort to check into.

Yea I remember hearing about the free land giveaway now. The deal I had seen was 28 acres with a 2br house for 100K with 5% down , but then I remember that in Alaska in some places a "house" could consist of a Cessna wing , some alder poles and the ever present blue tarp.

The "free land deal" only required that you build a primary residence on the land and live there for a defined period of time.

$100,000 sounds kind of high for that area.  In all honesty, its very likely that it will sit on the market for a long time.

I played basketball in 1978 against the Anderson High School Grizzlies.

Colder that goose snot.

Haven't been back since.

Did they still use the fruit basket nailed to plywood back then?

That burger joint must be down in cantwell, maybe 30 miles south of healy, and is indeed pretty damn good.
REAL pretty country out there. As long as  you dont need a city full of people to keep you entertained, it would be a fine place to set up shop.  tends toward being pretty windy, temps range widely with the seasons.

There's a good place about 2 miles north of Nenana.

You would have to be nuts to live in Anderson year round.  There are houses, a post office, presumably a school and church of some kind (didn't see them though) and a sweet shooting range where the mayor encourages you to bring any machine guns, cannons, junk cars, and dynamite you might have.

Burger joint two miles north of Nenana?

The Monderosa?

Driven by a 100 times, never stopped.

A mayor who encourages shooting cars with machine guns? Sounds like a great place for a second home . . .

Do they provide machine guns? I can provide the appliances.

Sadly, no.  But the fine folks of AMGA are happy to let you try out their guns.  Very generous people.

That is true. I have met a few over the past few weeks and they are a great bunch of guys.

that mayor is no longer living he was also the towns trash man and kind of compacted a large part of his body with the help of a faulty dump truck IIRC
