Last Sunday, my son and I were riding around, and we witnessed some guy rearend a lady at a stop light. He knocked her out into the intersection about ten feet, then back up and speed off. We got his license plate no. and vehicle discription and callled "the man". Then we checked to see if the lady was okay. She asked me what happened, and after telling her, she asked me if I would be a witness for her. Okay. Anyhow, after they showed up and talked to her, she told him that we(my son and I) had seen it. Okay heres the question. When he asked me for my ID, I handed him my DL and my CHL. He handed the CHL back to me and said he didnt need it, so was this an instance where i didnt have to show it to him? Since I wasnt under investigation, was I exempt? I looked in the state CHL guidebook, but didnt find what I was looking for. By the way, The officer seemed glad I showed it to him, cuz he smiled. Oh, one more interesting thing, His first initial and last name were the same as one of our hometown leo who post on this board. I almost asked him if he was on board here, but didnt |
Any time a magistrate or peace officer demands that you identify yourself, if you are caryying you must show BOTH your CHL and ID.
