Sorry to be bothering all of you with these questions, this is my first FTF sale, and I've read some of the horror stories about the government fucking you pretty hard (and they won't even spoon afterwards), so I want to make sure I cover all the bases.

I want to make the other person signs something confirming that I have sold the firearm to them and that they are free and clear of any criminal activity, etc.

Do you guys have any form or anything that you've used in the past or and suggestions on what I should include in this?

Or just be totally honest with me and let me know if I'm totally wasting my time and should take my tin foil hat off.  Thanks!!

Use your judgement; If the person you are selling too looks & feels ok, Do it, if not walk away.  I have purchased stuff where I have provided ID & signed statements to make the seller comfortable, But that is it, it is just to make the seller happy. In NYS there is no requirement for an individual to check anything.
I once purchased an AK from a NYPD Captain, I offered my ID to him & he refused to look at it, He said he has learned to do only what the law requires & nothing more.
But that is just his opinion. If you are really worried about the person go to your FFL & do the transfer through him, Including the NICS check.
I you need a form you can always use something like this.

Unless you are selling an illegal firearm or you have knowledge it is illegal for the person buying  to own firearms you don't have much to worry about.  The whole reason I like FTF transfers is there is no paperwork.   I will admit I have asked for a receipt in the past for high dollar transfers just so they can't say I stole it.  If you are not comfortable with selling to another person, don't do it.

I would guess a 'bill of sale'  - perhaps two copies - one for you and one for buyer.

Saying what the firearm is including serial number and who you are selling it to.

ex.  I (name) am selling (firearm X & serial number) to (buyers name) on (date of transaction).

Both of you can sign it and that should do it.

Just be sure to 'clear' this with the purchaser as well before agreeing to a sale.  Do whatever makes you feel more comfortable, you are selling a firearm to someone you don't know.  However be sure that some may have a problem with it.

For what its worth, I normally don't "require" it...as its not required by law...and as long as you are knowingly NOT selling the firearm to a convict/druggie/unstable person you should be just fine.

I always want a bill of sale (both as seller and buyer) just in case the firearm ends up on a stolen firearms list at some time.  This way I have a paper trail to cover my butt.  As a buyer I have no problem showing ID to the seller to prove I am a resident of NYS and as a seller I always request the same.  I don't want to be involved with an improper out of state ftf transfer.  If the party on the other side does not like those terms I will go elsewhere.
