Maybe we should have a stikied thread for all the folks that are recently unemployed.

Just got let go after 13 years with an Automotive OEM supplier. For the last 6 years I've been working in Assembly plants as direct Customer support. Prior to that I was in our manufacturing facilities working as a Process Engineer. Before that, 17 years in a Oilfield Chemical plant. Lost that one to the downturn in the Oil business.

Got replaced by a contract employee that actually makes more per hour than I was. Guess they figure they will make it up bynot having to pay any benefits even though I had just dropped my Companies Insurance coverage. Oh well, I was looking for a job when I found this one.

Wish me luck, mgfan58

I already have a couple of leads and several good people helping me. Last time I was laid of I got the last check from my old job and the first check from my new job on the same day. I'd like to take advantage of my severance a little better this time and pay off some bills.

It won't take long for this to really start hurting. I had two opportunities offered me several months ago and opted to stay put. Guess I should have taken the one that would have moved me back to Tenneessee. I really liked it there and miss it a lot. We onlu lived there for 2.5 years but it really felt like home. People were super nice aroung Columbia and Spring Hill.

Wow, I think I know where you worked. A place up in Willis? If so, I know someone else that works there.

I had a hell of a time finding work before all this economy crap started.  Took me a year to get back in my field, I would hate to try now.  Best of luck, I feel for you.

Good luck to you. Our client just pulled the plug on our project yesterday. I hope I can find something before too long. Oil industry has slowed WAY down. Oil needs to get back up to about $70 a barrel. I'd really hate to see the same shit we saw in the 70's.

No I was working at the Arlington Assembly Plant for a parts supplier. Had to have back surgery and was let go 2.5 days after returning to work. Back is fine now but I don't have a job any more.

That's the truth. I've been doing software for oil & gas for the last ten years. It was a bit shocking to see the change in expenditures that started immediately after the holidays. It could be a rough year for a lot of Texas if something doesn't change.
