I am in Dupage county the north west corner. I am looking for somewhere to shoot in my area and I have seen St charles is mostly a shotgun cob and there is no information on their site. ASC is an option but I wont join until the end of the year so I am not spending 560 in one sitting. I usually go to McMillers in WI but that is a little over 2 hours and ASC is a hair over 1.  I am looking for somewhere that has over 100 yards, actually the longer the better, I am building a 308 ar. I know one good thing is when you become a member of ASC you get a key so you can go there whenever you want.

Buffalo Range in Ottawa has to be closer to you than mcmiller.  Haven't been to buffalo in over a decade but I think it has a 100yd.  Could be wrong.

Buffalo is the same distance than McMillers, so micmillers is a better option. I guess ASC would be the best bet, I am going to see if its worth it for me to pay and not use it alot.

The ISRA range in Kankakee has a 100, 200, 300 yd range and a 100meter range.  The 300 yard range has butts for a target operator.  The cost is $325 a year + a yearly membership to the ISRA at $25.00.

I might just go with the ISRA lifetime membership is 500 bucks and then range dues.

I am in the Western Burbs and I have shot at Kankakee, Buffalo Rock, McMiller, Racine County Line Range, and ASC. And I have a few observations, IMHO. I rarely post, but here goes...

Kankakee is a nice range with good people there - I have shot high power and regular pistol there but I don't see them being as receptive to tactical stuff as other places - but again this is an assumption IMHO. Run by some very good people and a clean, comfortable shooting experience. Good place to get burgers and beer right down the road. 70 minutes from my house.

Buffalo is a good place to bring people to shoot but a not so good place to train. They have a shotgun, pistol, 100m bench rifle, and the Pit. The RSOs are stern, but you have to be with the volume of general public that have NO idea what they are doing. For the shooting I used to do - mag dumps into a side of a hill, it was great! Classes are hosted there and the staff is friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to return there. Gets really crowded in the summer. 25 bucks a day, or a season pass. 65 minutes from my house.

McMiller is similar to Kankakee, nice drive, open location, friendly staff, good club house, and sufficient range. The range has distance shooting and pistol ranges. It is open mostly year round too, but crowded during hunting season. However, as the years have gone by it comes to a point that I am not interested in bench shooting anymore. But for sighting in a deer rifle or .22 plinking with the family, I like it. I forget what the prices are, but it is comparable to Buffalo. 95 minutes from my house.

RCLC range in Wisconsin is a easy drive off of a major tollway/highway. It has a long distance range (600m), shotgun range, (100m) rifle, and a few pistol ranges.  This range relies on the premise that members work service hours to keep costs down, and more importantly - that they follow firearms safety rules. The members are friendly and with proper coordination, the range will host tactical classes. Pay careful attention to the range calendar... if not you can get bumped off a range very easily. Overall - a great range, Membership is not expensive but the service hours are substantial. For me, the drive kills the majority of my day (along with the obligatory trip to the brat stop) so I ultimately looked for something a bit closer... but if I was 30 minutes closer, that would be my huckleberry. 100 minutes from my house.

ASC range. Off of 88, has a 600 m range, quite a few pistol bays, 50 m, 100 m range. This range has a couple benefits for me - Practical Rifle is held every third Saturday (super fun), I can usually shoot in a bay by myself or with buddies, and when the paperwork is complete - holster draws are permitted. This is a big benefit to me as I like to practice something other than bladed-slow fire with a pistol on the bench. Other members are friendly too and non-members can shoot for a nominal fee with a wrist band ...  a big bonus for me too. Pub West is down the road, which include beers and a sandwich called the "drunk pig". The Cons: 500+ bucks to join, I have heard there is lots of bureaucracy in the higher levels. 40 minutes from my house.

Again, IMHO. These are just rambling thoughts of the ranges I have used and there are other options - like Sycamore or others.  You may be able to see all of these by going to appleseed clinics or local matches. Good Luck in your quest.
