Okay Sunday night I went by my grandmother's house and picked up her dining room table. It was originally my great grandmother's, passed to my grandma, then to me.  I absolutely love this table! but it does have some wear and tear on it because for the past 10 years or so it has been stored uncovered and untreated in a garage. I generously applied some old English wood oil stuff to it last night to try to revive it and bring it back to its natural beauty. If at all possible I want to avoid having it refinished so is there any other way I could go about keeping it original, but making it look new again??

Not really. In order to keep its value do not refinish it. Clean it with a wood cleaner like murphey soil soap and apply a good quality furniture wax to it.

Hammer, screwdriver, and pliers. With those, you can fix anything

1Shott is all over it.

R is right about that. Use a soft brush with the murhpy soap and it will be a bit more effective on stains.

thanks guys!

this table is so cool.. not sure why I am so excited about it, but I am. As a child growing up my brothers and I were not allowed to sit at this table for Thanksgiving dinners and such. All the children had to sit at the kitchen table. Another thing that is really awesome.. the china that my grandmother used for Thanksgiving dinners she has passed to me as well. It was a set that my grandpa sent to her when he was in Japan. I have all the original pieces and even the ones arrived broken back in the 40's when she received it. On one hand I am really excited and it means a lot for my grandmother to pass these things along to me, but on the other hand it makes me sad because I feel like she is giving her stuff away already and she is no where near close to dying.

Its the little things in life that mean the most and make me smile

See there, you have physical reminders of holidays pass with grandma, how much better can it get?

That table and china set are priceless, dont ever froget that.

All I have left from my grandmother is a afghan she made and a 1880 morgan silver doller her grandmother had.
