That used to be my go to spot for shooting but I havent been there in a few years now. I had heard they made a bunch of "improvements" and added a lot of rules. I am just looking to get in a little super safe trigger time, and my local club wont allow that type of thing. Is the pit FRT friendly? |

The Michigan DNR responded to local resident's complaints by "upgrading" The Pit to an official state range. This means they made a lot of improvements to stuff like paving the parking area, building accessible covered shooting stations, supplying an accessible porta-potty, etc. While it remains fee-free to use like most state ranges are, it also now has their fudd rules. While I don't particularly agree with all of the new rules, we did this to ourselves. Years ago, I stopped by the 'pit' for a look, see. I was in the area and just wanted to stop. I had driven by that corner dozens of times. This was before the DNR take over of the range. I was disgusted with what I saw, it looked more like a garbage dump than a shooting range. I told my son, who was with me, that I wouldn't shoot there, as I wanted no association with the pit at all. The pictures I see online today looks good although the same dumb fucks will always leave their garbage behind. This happens at both public and private ranges alike. I don't know where you are located, but I recommend Blue Water or 4 Square. Although I haven't been to 4 Square in more than 30 years, |

I live on the west edge of Genesee County. I am a member of club out this way that is 5 minutes from home but they don't allow anything remotely resembling auto fire. I wonder if there is anything towards Lansing.... |

Blue Water allows shooting of any legal firearm. If you'd like to try it, I'll take you as my guest so you can check it out. The annual membership is pretty cheap. I pay something like $170 for unlimited use for the whole family. I think it's only $140 or so for an individual. It's a little away from you, but an easy trip along 69. |

gearjammer351......Thank you for your generous offer but I couldnt imagine spending that much for a membership so far from home. For now it looks like I will just spend a little gas money every once in a while and spend a weekend at my buddies hunting cabin up by Mio and do my shooting there. motorcitymadman.......That subgun was a fun little gun for a minute. Problem was it liked to break parts. I ended up selling it to a guy down at Bulletfest one year. I am married these days and have to act a bit more responsible with my income so I dont have any transferable full autos any more. I can afford an FRT though  . I just need a place within a reasonable driving distance away to shoot.

If you can’t do what you want there, we have a 225x400m open gravel pit on state land about 2 miles down the road. Lapeer was great while it lasted but became a victim of it’s own success. |

When I first found Ar15.com (heck....may have even been back in the AR15List days) I met up with a few guys at a gravel pit somewhere up north for some shooting. It was so long ago I dont even remember anything about the place other than it was pretty big. One of the guys had a launcher on an old military gun if I remember right and he was launching soup cans. Man.....I have been here a long time....... |

| Yeah Gearjammer is right. Bluewater Sportsman is nice. It's an hour drive for me but its nice for the freedom the allow you. I don't get out there as much as I used to but I love the time I get while I am there. I can take you as a guest too if your interested. |

I live much closer, so it's a bargain for me, especially since I take the whole family a few times a year. I took the boy to the nearest indoor range once, because he was anxious to shoot his new birthday gun and the weather was crappy. It cost nearly $40 for the two of us to shoot for a half hour.  That's my frame of reference. Just shoot me a message if you're in the area and want to go shoot. I can take a guest, and I'm close enough to go shooting without a lot of preparation. |
