Wife has a Facebook page, keeps saying I should get one.

Is there a point?  Do any of you HTFers have one, or is it the gehy?
6/6/2012 6:52:08 PM EDT
[#1]
same here, not going to happen
no,nope, and yes

I've got one.   Its kind of interesting at times.  And its a decent way to keep up with the whats happening where.
Some businesses post sales that they are going to have on certain days.

6/6/2012 7:03:11 PM EDT
[#3]
Wife tells me the same. I always respond that I've had the same phone# for 12yrs, if I've lost contact with them there's a reason.
Maybe from a business stand point.

I've got one...

Used to be all about checking it and seein' what was goin' on...

Now I haven't touched it in over 3 months... To be honest... I'm happier this way. LOL

I am very leery of Facebook....lots of people tell me to get one but I'm holding out.
6/6/2012 7:29:20 PM EDT

Don't do it.

I have one and use it everyday! And i'm super cool

I know of at least two from the board that have one. I used to buy recently disabled if due to a future career that I want to be somewhat private as possible.

ETA: make that four

[#9]
I've had one since facebook was started...
I think it's a good tool to keep up with friends from far away. Plus a lot of tacticool companies are on there and have giveaways.
If enough people have one here we should make a private group and maybe start an EE there? I miss the HTF EE so much...

Meh, I've got a page.  I do get a chuckle out of the nearly daily emails I get from them stating "Here's some events that you may have missed on Facebook".

No, I haven't missed them.

It is good for keeping up on gossip and family but overall it is a waste of time. You will lose all sorts of respect for your friends when you see the inane stuff they write about

Yep.  The handful of real freinds that I enjoyed interacting with eventually got outweighed by the FB "freinds" mentioned in your second statement.
6/7/2012 4:09:58 AM EDT

If you want to be a member of one of the ranges I belong to you are pretty much required to have one. That is how they communicate scores, matches, cancellations, any special notices, etc. I have few friends and don't accept any but people well known to me. I end up blocking the goofy posters. I have liked some vendors and enjoy receiving occasional news from them. Lots of scams but common sense keeps me out of most. The latest is one of your "friends" surfs some "social network" reading about some newsy or weird event, often with a interesting picture. Then that network sends the pic to all of your friends face book friends. If you click on the picture or article you are offer the opportunity to read the article and have all of your face book friends harassed until they die by every damn thing you surf on that particular web site. Clever, but really think there is a special place in hell for this type of clever.

I'm on there, and that's the only contact I have with some of the people I stay in touch with on there.

I don't like talking on the phone, and don't get good signal out here anyway.

I rarely email anyone, because too many people respond with a bunch of stupid Forwards.

I live too far from most of them for us to visit in person.

Even with all of that, if they force my page into the new TimeLine I won't be getting on there as much, and may quit altogether. It's hideous and hard to follow, like those old web sites made with frames.

I don't, wife does.

She uses it to talk to her boyfriend.

There's already a Central MO Gun Swap page. If you start one for the whole state, post a link for us.

I have "unfriended" a lot of people from my past when they posted stupid liberal political stuff with which I wholly disagree.  One gal who was oh-so cute back in the day is now a carpet-munching ultra-liberal vegan.   And a bunch of the girls who were quite cute back in the day are now complete hags, including the girl who popped my cherry.  She contacted me on FB and I had to do a triple-check to tell that she was a she and more to the point that she was the she who made me a man.  So sad.

I almost unfriended my mom after she wrote to me telling me that she was embarrassed to have her last name associated with mine because I wrote "America, FUCK YEAH!" as a status one time.

I don't go to HS reunions either as I no longer have anything in common with those people.

Eh, I could take or leave FB and not lose any sleep over it either way.

I do. I make quite a few appointments this way and have gained new clients too. Its a good marketing tool, and its nice to keep up with family. I just ignore the stuff I dont agree with. Other people have their opinion and I have mine.

have one......great for seeing new deal from Palmetto State Armory, new things LaRue is carrying,.....and for business it is kinda nice since I can easily generate a little buzz about a CCW class, mention my office...have people mention my office on their posts.

on a personal side.....not worth having unless you only "like" gun companies and want to see their sales and updates faster.

I am on facebook and go to The Ed Show FB page all the time to get them riled up. Ed Schultz FB followers are not very friendly to my conservative nature they keep telling me to choke and die.

Got one when I had my son to share photos with the family. Dont use it much now besides getting updates and sale info from favorite gun companies.

I have one... I initially got one to keep tabs on my kids FB page... But I soon had a ton of old friends, folks from school, past co-workers and famliy members on "Friends list"....

There is an AR15 page/group that not affiliated with this place, but most of the folks on it are from here, Glock, Larue, Midway, ton of company/venders have pages that one you click like/subscribe, you'll get their updates...

You can set it up to be lock down really tight, or you can loosen the stings a little or a lot...

You log in when you feel like it, if ya don't ya don't...

Some of my friends use it for planning Float trips, camping trips, parties and other shit... They send you an invite, then at a glance you can see who all is going, maybe's and Not goings as well as location and details...

I post a lot pf Pro-Gun shit on mine and it drive's the anti-nuts... But, over the last year I have a lot more more folks ""Liking" agreeing with and sharing my posts...

Ehh take it or leave it...

I've gone through the FB games and stopped playing most of them.  I do enough George Jetson button-pushing and rat feed tube swich nudging at work to find them fun anymore.

I too post up a lot of pro-RKBA stuff, keeps some folks guessing.  Moern Musket is a pretty good one, great posters show up from them from time to time.

I'd be down with an Eastern Missouri gun trading page simular to the Central MO one.

Has your mom seen your armorer's bench coffee table?

I don't have a FB page.  This is high enough profile.

However, it's tempting.  I have some old friends that keep in touch that way, and I could peek at my kids' pages.

I have one. I deactivate it from time to time tho. I find it somewhat entertaining. I keep tabs on bands/music stuff and gun stuff a lot.

it also makes me realize how fucking dumb 75% of the people I know really are. I almost never make statuses or respond to stuff on my wall. It's funny, my GF gets pissed when I don't respond to her "i love you" type of posts lol. I tell her it's not that I'm ignoring her just that I never say anything.

I have about 300 people I know on there and probably only give a shit about 10.

The privacy thing is what I'm concerned about.    I guess my wife's page must not be too secure.   The way it looks, her friends can link her page to any of their friends, and so on.
I would not want my info to be able to be shared like that.   I'll have to check how her's is set.

And we all know Chad is the coolest!!!!

Yup.
Use it for family stuff and some high school / college friends I don't get to see very often.  Mostly my mom and sister posts kids pictures.  We are spread out all over the county so it works well.  I am very careful about what I post though.

Kind of like here. (Sometimes.)

I know one of those

Went from gorgeous brunette, to non-showering, patchouli-wearing, dreadlocked 99%'er trustafarian hippie. I watched her go down that slippery slope on FB
