Does anyone one here open carry? It is legal in Ohio without needing a permit so I kinda want to give it a try. I am just worried it is going to freak some people out. Does any one have experience open carring?

I've done it while on jobs in the 'hood. No problems, so far.

I have quite often.  Nobody really seems to notice.  Back before the CHL revision, when it had to be in plain site in the car, I said F.I. and left it in plain site most of the time, like if I was running into a speedway or what not.

But the reaction, or lack thereof, I think most people either a) Don't notice or b) figure if you are doing that you are a cop or something and figure it is OK.

My friend used to do about the same thing.  He was getting a fill up in Cridersville or so, and a LEO pulled up behind him and turned on his lights.  He stood there and the cop walked up and asked him why he had a gun.  He stated "Self defense" and the LEO said OK, just wanted to make sure you are not going to rop the place....

Yep. It's legal. But after getting some less than friendly advice from more than a few LEO. I wouldn't do it.

Yes it's legal, But the trouble that can follow with it is not worth it seeing how we have CCW in ohio.

Out in the rural area's fine. But in town or a large city. Your asking to get drawn down on and faced down in the mud.

Sorry, I've been to many CCW class''s and 99% of the instructor will tell you "NOT TO DO THIS". Your asking for trouble.

While it is not illegal, it MAY result in unwanted official attention...or not

My personal preference has always been and will always be that I don't want anyone to know anything I may or may not have on me.

Them or They=criminals

If they see it, then they know where to get one.  If you are carrying openly all they have to do is have a friend make some kind of distraction and they can try and slip up behind you for a snatch.  They might get it, they might not.  Who wants to chance it.

Another possibility is they want your vehicle.  If they have a gun and know you have a gun then I would think you are more likely to catch a bullet first thing.

Now, if they don't know I have it they are behind the curve if I needed to draw it.

I will keep mine out of plain sight.  I want them to be surprised.

back in the day i used to open carry when i lived in columbus. Like others said above. Unless your in rural lands you draw unwanted attention.

Now that i have my CHL i find it hard to fathom open carry because it gives up the element of surprise you need when you your self are surprised by an attacker.

P.S. LEO's can nail you with inducing a panic if someone bitch's loud enough about your open carry. Bullshit as it may be,it can happen. Food for thought

An officer with the Beavercreek PD said that you could be arrested for violating local ordinances against it.  Not all officers fully understand the effect of preemption.
