Went to buy a .22WMR rifle today and my application got delayed. I can't remember if I got delayed my last time either which was about two years ago but I'm pretty sure I did the time before that. What causes someone to get delayed and is there any way to find out. I know the time before I got delayed, it was only an hour or so and the phone call came in just before I was about to leave the store. I haven't even had a speeding ticket since the last time I made a purchase. I wish there was a way to get preapproved  with a confirmation # that would last a few days instead of having to put up with this. Of course I live an hour from the store.

Names or numbers are close to someone else or an error on the form.  If it's happened before then it's probably a name that's close to yours and they have to verify.  No worries.

I've tried looking this up, but couldn't find it. If you have your CWP, do you still get checked every time you buy a gun? I thought I read or heard somewhere before that the permit allow you to purchase a gun without the check. I'm not worried about getting denied, it's just the hassle of waiting and having to make another trip back to the store.

Yep CWP means they don't have to make the phone call.

The OP is from South Carolina and SC purchase laws are different than NC, but still meet the ATF regulations

The no call in with CCL or pistol purchase permit only applies to NC resident purchasing in NC. NC is one of the few or the only state that is allowed to do this per the ATF due to the back ground check that is required to attain said permits.

If you have a CCP here in SC there is no phone call necessary. I have bought several handguns and long guns NO PHONE CALL. There is a place on the form for your CCP number.

I can tell you what's going to be funny. I've also ordered some EA lowers a couple weeks ago so I'll be going through the process again, possibly the same day or a few days apart. I don't exactly know the process they go through on the other end of the phone, but if it's up to the individual on the other end reviewing things, I bet I'll get delayed again on my 'second' try. Hopefully, there will be something on their computer showing a recent approval. At least the FFL transfer guy only lives about 20 minutes from my house. I'm going to consider getting my CCP, even though I don't know if it will be worth it no more often than I buy guns. If it was as easy as showing my permit, I'd probably buy them more often though.

Went to FFL to pick up receivers this morning. He called in and I was put on hold again. He asked to be transferred to what he called an examiner. One minute later, I'm signing my papers and carrying my new toys home. This could be some good info to know if held up again, encourage your FFL to ask for this if it's possible.
