Hello Again! I just bought a paintball gun from Wal-Mart. It was pretty expensive at $88.97. The guy at the counter said it hurts. I'm wondering if anybody out there has ever played and would be willing to show me the ropes? I hope it doesn't hurt, I bruise easily. I heard of a field out in Maricopa. Has anybody played here before? If yes, would this be a safe field a starter? |

heh, only $88? dude, you've just scratched the surface. looking to my right, I count about $3500 of my wasted dollars in equipment for that damn sport. man up, it doesnt hurt bad at all. find a local field and go play there, there will be plenty of people who will be willing to help you out. and for the love of god, dont camp in the back like the rest of the newbies! run up and play hard, sure you'll get shot, it doesnt hurt bad at all. trust me on that one, I've been playing for about 7 years now and have been shot hundreds of times. btw, dont feel bad about the $88 gun, its probably a copy of a SPYDER which is one of the best entry level guns. it is the one I started with but back when I started they cost over $200 for a starter setup. the best piece of advice I can give: dont be a wuss- play hard or go home. |
rainbowsex is kidding when he says he bruises easily. I met him today to trade guns, and he's anything but a wuss . I'm thinking his side job is that of a WWE wrestler.SoTheRedHorseman, of that $3,500 in wasted EQ, will there ever be a fire sale? |
| Eye protection is a must. Paintballs sting a little but once you get hit a few times, it won't bother you at all. Wearing loose clothing will help take the impact. I loved playing paintball until I realized it was cheaper to shoot real guns than paintball guns. Enjoy it. It's an addictive sport. |
Damn, beat me to it! +1000 on the cup. Trust me, it stings when you get hit on the arm and it raises a small welt, but get hit in the nuts and you'll think you're Wile E. Coyote himself and that 2 ton weight you launched up in the air 5 minutes ago just landed on your crotch. Fortunately for me, I've already had all the kids I want.

I use to play this sport a lot. Man, with all these new guns and equipment out there, I can see how a person can spend $3000+ on gear. Just saw a paintball competition on ESPN last week, a guy got cornered behind an inflatable bunker and about 4 guys rushed him with double-flap triggers and dumped 100's of paintballs on him. I know that the rules state that when a person get hit and raises his hand or gun, you're suppose to stop shooting.. But, this guy was aching so bad, all he can do was fall on the ground and roll up into a fetal position. When the smoke cleared, he looked like he'd been soaking in a 55gallon drum of wet paint! LOL. Poor guy! He had a good mask... hopefully he had a good CUP, too! LOL> |
| Hi notgrownupyetSBR556. So, you are scared too? I've been wanting to play, but as much as I keep reading the responses, I get more and more afraid. These guys must really know what they are doing. I can't even imagine having that kind of equipment. I've read in magazines where it's guys like these, TheRedHorseman, 2ndchance, realwar, are probably pro level. If these guys would be willing to, what do you call it? Bust our cherries, what the hell. I have an icepack and a new bottle of Tylenol. So if there is anyone out there that would be willing to hold nothing back and show us how paintball is really played, I'd really like it because I know they probably can remember their first game and hopefully show some mercy. |

HEY WAIT A SECOND!!!! dont be drafting me into an ass woopen. I would like to try paintball, but with guys of similiar abilities. 3K in equipment? against what i would have dont sound like fun. I dont think a single bottle of tylenol would cut it. Now with that said. I would agree to go out against some people in the know, if they promise to be gentle. |
If you plan to play rec ball...your $88 Wal-Mart special might get ya by...if you want to be competitive your looking in the $1000-$1500 range...when your pinned behind a bunker by a 12 year kid firing 24bps...you will know exactly what I mean. Unless you plan upon getting bunkered alot...you will not even feel the paintballs breaking on ya....wear a beanie or hat with a full mask...and learn to use your bunker...it's a RUSH. Don't settle for Wal-Mart paint...it will not mark well...nor will it break very easily...spend $60 and get a quality paint...it will improve your day of ball'n Good luck....check out PaintballArizona.com |

Don't ever take one on the ear from behind - trust me..... The guy had me dead to rights, why he didn't take a body shot I'll never know - I was pissed! Eye protection, hat, loose fitting clothing and you will be fine. The game will get your adrenalin up so high that you will hardly feel body hits, head hits are another thing! |

you know, honestly I play more with my 1988 vintage pump action gun that I got at a yard sale for $30 more than the other stuff, I just strap my nitrogen system to it since I dont run CO2 any more. lots of fun and a huge challenge. and I always get kids asking me "is that a shotgun?" kids..... |
