Here is probably the only pic I'd post of myself, but I wanted to show off my patrol area and my PTR91.

This self photo was taken in that sweet time frame each spring when the bugs have yet come out but the weather is great.  Today there are A LOT of bugs everywhere which has helped my fly fishing.  I got two approximately 18 inch grayling, while fly fhishing this afternoon after work.  We will see what morning brings fishing wise.  Anaktuvuk Pass is a real nice place in the summer.

Arcticbear, I know you are a hell of a nice guy but you still do a great job of projecting that 'you-don't-want-to-funk-with-me' look you LE guys use, and you are not even in uniform!

The scenery looks awesome, Fairbanks doesn't have mountains as you know.  Heck, being on the slope, in ANWR, I sure miss things like trees and grass.  After sweating my ass off and getting a heck of a tan in Fairbanks with the 83+ degree days and 24hr sunlight, I returned to work in Barter Island where there are still snow drifts and only gets from 32degF peaking up to 40deg on a good day.

So...you bump fire that thing yet?

Anawhatsit pass is way too far away from salt water for me.

I prefer Seward.

Just until the 30th and then it is back home to the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World for good.  No more North Slope.

I thought you were all supposed to begin rotation that brought you to all the locations, including the slope, on purpose.

Did you transfer to another unit, have a choice where not to go, or what?

I guess this means the farthest northern Arfcommer chapter is no more, we all moved away from Barrow.  I wonder if there is a community farther north than Fairbanks with more than one member?

What in the world are you all talking about!?  Everyone knows that Homer is and always has been the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the WORLD"  THat and they bake good beer there!

I was offered a new job with the Homer Police Department on Friday and took it.  The wife told me that she would knick my back-side right out of the house if I did not take the job.  After almost 7 years on Slope it was time to move forth.  I am excited about working in Homer and finally being home everynight.  So if anyone wants to drink beer and fish for Halibut you all know where to come.

I have not bumped the PTR91 yet but have been getting the bump on with the SW5 and my ar15.  I have been out patroling a lot on the 4-wheeler and enjoying the area.  After work I have been flyfishing and got a couple fat 17/18 inch grayling.  I will be out in the next day or two for some arctic char.

If you enjoy Grayling fishing in the land of no trees you should try my neighborhood. Have a couple spots where I'll bet big money you can't catch one under 20".

I know there are some large grayling out there and in time I sure hope to find a 20 inch grayling.  There are still so many places out there in Alaska that have not been fished, so my hope is high for one.  What area are you living in?

Artic Bear:
I live 80 air miles south of King Salmon on the Outlet of Lower Ugashik Lake.  The area is known for its trophy Grayling but the numbers have declined in the last 10 years but are starting to come back. I've been trapping otter for the last 3 years because I think they have contributed to the decline more than anything. I've worked in the Fairbanks area and hunted in the Brooks and a 20" Grayling was a big deal there but when I first moved down here you could not catch one under 20". The most popular areas get hit fairly hard but there are still a lot of untouched places left.
You won't be that far away when you get to Homer.

All i can say is "oOOOOh LORD"

This is why Alaska is Great to me.

Thanks for the great pic.

I am hoping this fall me and the Anchor river will tangle and that I can come out of it with some nice trout.

I haven't caught a fish in so many years I can't recall now.  I waste my money buying a fishing license each year but timing and poor locations have always thwarted me.

I want a nice fishy soooo bad!  Just some nice playful silvers or one King Salmon would do me.

I ain't fished for my self in a long time, I mostly worked on Charter boats, that was my thrill.  BEtter than any drug, fast car or whatnot because the thrill was always the same, taking people out fishing, and slaughtering silvers.

My Wife is suggesting we go fishing as a family now, and I guess it might be a good snag dinner every once in a while.  God I love Seward.

On your silver charters did you ever see them stacked like cordwood? This was taken about 400 yards from my front door.

Damn

And I thought it was cool to see the red streaks running up the turquoise water of the Kenai

Thanks for sharing it

Wow! I have never seen fidh lined up like that.

All this talk of fishing is getting me excited, I am going out of Seward Saturday morning through Monday on a friends boat.

I am taking my fly rod to try salt water fly fishing.  Its a little underpowered for salt but I am going to try anyway.

I sometimes get them so thick that they will snag themselves on single hooks because they are packed so tightly together.  I have caught 48 salmon in 43 minutes before as well, I was held back using the downrigger equipment.  Runs ain't been like that past years though.

We all have got to love living outside of Anchorage.  Anyone ever fish Clear Creek?  I know that the silvers will be fun catching them in the Anchor River this next month.
