I posted the below in GD also www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=655293.
I am also curious if there is some type of long range shooting facility in Decatur? I have not received all of the details of my trip so I am not aware of any possible venues in the Decatur area. |
Dekalb County has a 200yd rifle range for public use (but using their targets, and last time I was there, they weren't putting targets up at 200, said there might be rattlesnakes, they were using people sentenced to community service to put up targets), not sure if the police side of the range has longer ranges available. There's a 300 yard private club on that side of Atlanta, the next county over. The only military range I'm aware of in the Atlanta metro area is a 25m zero range next to the golf course at Ft. MacPherson. |
Where in Dekalb is a 200YD range? |
It's the Dekalb County Police range out I-20 near Lithonia. Should be listed in the blue pages of the phone book, they sometimes have strange hours. Several of the ranges are available for public use, there are also ranges owned by specific departments for their use. Back when I was in college, the range officer would let our club use the Dekalb PD pistol range for events as long as we had an NRA instructor with us, but when he retired, his replacement stopped the deal (had to be scheduled in advance to avoid conflicts with PD training, of course). |

There are plenty of great restaurants in the Atlanta area. Decatur is just outside Atlanta, and other than having taller buildings, I would consider there to be no major difference in the risks, culture, and other things going on. If you go to certain neighborhoods in both Decatur and Atlanta, you will find $1 million + homes, while just around the corner from those are shitholes. |

I have been working in Decatur since September and can honestly say I think there are more Restaurants in the 4.5 square miles of this city than just about anywhere else around Atlanta. My two favorite places to eat are Depeaux and Our Way Cafe for lunch. Your choice on hotels in Decatur are pretty limited. It's been my experience that Decatur is pretty safe. I have had zero problems but I have not wandered the streets alone late at night either. Overall, I don't get the impression that Decatur is a very pro-gun area. I come in contact with alot of local left winger liberal types. There are alot of college kids around there also, Agnes-Scott College is an all girls school in Decatur and Emory University is nearby. I wouldn't want to live there but you could do a helluva lot worse. |
