Well I hope it doesn't get shut down but who knows at this point in time story |
|
I doubt it will reopen but like you said, who knows.
Just the type of thing the anti gunners are looking for. Shame really because to my knowledge it's the only place around here that's truly free to the public. Many moons ago I was a member at Capital City RPC but when I found out I could shoot at the pits for free I exited the club. But I suppose when you open a place to the public for free, you're gonna attract some less than desirable levels of responsible shooters and someone was bound to screw it up. Who knows it was just as likely an accident, but either way it was bound to happen eventually. Frankly I'm surprised it lasted this long, especially with all the ATV trails around there. Aside from this event, I'd heard a lot of rumors of shady people doing shady things out there. Just this past summer I'd read that people were waiting for shooters to walk downrange to check targets, and running out from the woodline or their vehicles and making off with people's weapons. Also there was the issue of people always leaving their old appliances and crap out there after they'd shoot it up. Too bad really. I enjoyed having a free public shooting spot. |

When was the last time you were there. I go...well I did go often and the last year I'd say was all clean and less shady people hanging out .
No trash left behind just brass sometimes. Really sucks since it was so close and all thats around.. I'm going to join the club now just so i can still shoot. I'm sure it was just an accident. The burm should be fixed, as in less big rocks on it. |

On Tuesday, April 5, Governor Paul LePage (R) signed Legislative Document 1500.
LD 1500, sponsored by Representative Patrick Corey (R-Windham), seeks to protect “sport shooting ranges” from legal actions which aim to restrict or prohibit range uses based on noise, nuisance and similar laws that were passed or took effect after the range came into existence. Under LD 1500, these later-enacted laws could not be used to prohibit a sport shooting range from restoring or repairing existing facilities or expanding its events and activities, so long as these are consistent with general range operation practices. This bill would not, however, immunize a range from actions claiming negligent or reckless operation or use of a range hopefully this will open it back up..

I dunno, I doubt it...
"This bill would not, however, immunize a range from actions claiming negligent or reckless operation or use of a range" That is exactly why it got shut down...but I'm no expert. I'm going to be at the CCRPC meeting Monday night to join up, but still hope for the best on the public range. |
|
The monthly club meeting is at 7PM where they'll be proposing new projects, executives, and members. Typically membership cycles are May thru April but I got an email from the club pres saying he'd give me April thru April for the same price. So since the public range is now a no-go I'm gonna do it up.
On a seperate note, the public range can still be used with LEO supervision. I had a buddy call IFW and they quoted him a week lead time on setting up a window of time to use it. Isn't that something, government supervised shooting. I'll pass. |

Awesome I'll see ya then, will be nice not to be the only newcomer.
I'll be the asshat walking around aimlessly like the new kid in school trying to make friends. I'll likely sport my new Larue hat I got with my new T2 that needs zeroing I've never used tannerite but from what I know about it, I'm not surprised. I was a member there about 10 years or so ago. They keep everything straight forward safety-wise, but at least not LEO supervision type of extent lol |
I really hope they open it back up. Either way I'm join the club still, it's less sketchy probably haha
hopefully this will open it back up..
