Fellas:

I'm new to the Austin area and I'm looking for a qualified gunsmith to install a set of Trijicon night sights on my XD-45.  If anyone knows of any good smiths, please feel free to let me know.

I'm also looking for a good M-44 or M-39 in the Austin area if anyone knows of a shop.

Thanks everyone.

Try The Gun Store in Cedar Park. I think David sells and installs these in-house.

Well, I just spoke with David at The Gun Store. David said that he farms out the sight installation to another local smith. He can still get it done for you, just not in house.

The only gunsmith I have used in Austin is Hank Flemming.

His work is good but he is slow.  Turnaround is usually a month or more in my limited experience.

I have also heard good things about Alan Tillman when it comes to pistol (specifically 1911) work, but have never used him.

Good luck.

I approached Alan with a project in November, and he mentioned that was in the works, indeed.

Thanks Keith:

I got in touch with Mr. David who mentioned that he couldn't do the sights in house and that he wasn't sure if he could farm them out to a gunsmith to have them installed.

He did offer to call me back in 'a week or so' once he figures out if this can be done or not.

Does anyone have any idea who else could do such a project?  Hank and Alan weren't interested at all.

Goto the Austin Saxet show and look for Alan from Sprinco.  He can do them there onsite.  3rd weekend of every month at the Crockett Center (Lamar btw Braker and Rundberg across from Chuy's)

Try Tom at Heritage Firearms.  He did some work on a 1911 for me, so he might be able to give you a hand

Thanks Leaky.  I called Heritage firearms and will have them install my sights for me.

On a side note, there are absolutely NO dealers in Austin who sell SG01 trijicon pistol night sights.

Hell, I even called McBrides who told me 'Go get them off the internet"

Sigh.
