To go to west bend, WI from MI, your best bet is probably I-90W from MI to I-80W in IN into IL to I-355N to I-88E to I-294W to I-94W.

The I-355 extension to I-80 is new and forgotten about kind of.  Never any traffic.  And that way you go around the city and into the suburbs and avoid the traffic.  355 , 88 and 294/94 are toll roads.

Then you jump on I-88 to I-294 and that will run you north to I-94 right to West Bend.

It does go out of your way though.  You could just take I-80 to I-294, but if you're anywhere near rush hour you're going to get screwed.  Especially since 294 is under construction down by south holland and again up by the WI border -but that ones unavoidable.

It was a mess last fall construction from Hammond to the Brat House in Racine...Went through on a Sunday and it was terrible...Hell, LA traffic is a breeze, was out there last week...Thanks for the tips

If you plan to travel during normal commuter hours or weekends, forget it, there's no good way. I'd try to blow through the city at 0400 if it was me making the trip. That's what many OTR truckers do.

I travel 35 miles each way on my daily commute. I used to spend 3-4 hours a day in traffic until I modified my office hours. At 0330, I can make my commute from the SW suburbs to Skokie in 35 minutes and my day ends around 1300 or so, depending on workload. I've cut my travel time by at least 60% and I'm more productive because I'm not pissed off all the time about traffic.

I think you will find that it may actually be faster to go through downtown Chicago as long as it is not during rush hours.

I drove home from hammond a few months ago. Left Hammond about 6 pm and never stopped from the time I got on the interstate in hammond, across the skyway, and through downtown and all the way out to Rockford.

other times i would probably try to go around on 294/88/290/80, or some combination there of.
