Does anyone know about how long it takes to do a background check for Dallas county? I am waiting on it to be done for my CHL and I am on about day 96 since I started the whole process.

My initial CHL took 94 days....from receipt to delivery to me.

The renewal about a year 2 years ago.....took 2 weeks.

When my SO did his, it took right at 100 days. I think he had a problem with his fingerprints. I had a problem with my photo. It took them about 80ish days to let me know that. They have had my new photos for a little over 2 weeks now.

CHL approval is taking more than the normal time since just before the elections in November.

Meh...   45 days after sending my paperwork in I received a letter stating i need to send in clearer passport photos.

Then, two days later i received a manilla envelope with new fingerprint cards in them.
Oh well.  You got to play by their rules, i guess.

Have you heard anything yet?  If it has been over 90 days since they received a completed application you should call DPS and inquire.

I have called. I called this afternoon to see what was up with it and the very nice lady told me that they are doing my background check. They received my new photos about 2 weeks ago which is what was making me wonder what was going on. She let me know that they couldn't start the background check till they had the photos.

Hopefully it doesn't affect the CHL system, but I heard they shut down the DPS driver's license computer system for awhile to try to avoid a worm virus that was hitting some computers.  Supposedly they are now running 4 weeks behind on DL renewels.

Bummer.  Hopefully the Trooper doing the checks in Dallas County can get right on it.

Depends on who is doing the background check. My wife and I own a background check company in the DFW area and give employment companies next day service. but dealing with government agencies is totally different. they don't lose customers if they drag their feet. good luck to you, I'm  waiting on my CHL also,  been about 40 days for me so far , got notified it is now processing.

DPS also actually sends a Trooper into the county clerks offices and taxing entities.  They don't rely on online sources.

It takes a few minutes.

How long does it take for a government employee to do a background check for Dallas county. That's the real question.

When I went to work for Uncle Sam, I filled out the background paperwork in June, started working in September. The following August, I got called in over my background check. Apparently, the Federal government had waited so long, they wouldn't accept signatures that were dated more than 1 year old. We were told to review our background check paperwork, make any changes if necessary, re-sign and re-date the paperwork, and turn it back in. And this was after 9/11.

My mil security clearance took over 2 years and three copies of SF86... Kept getting lost. Go figure the govt to screw something like that up.

CHL took just under 5 months, I think, but that was with Ike screwing things up and the post-election rush. I know in the last year applications have drastically spiked. I think 3-4 months is normal now (forget the 60 days they say).

So on day 106 my online status finally showed "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" WOOT WOOT! So it took about 2 weeks for them to do my background check.

Waiting . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . .

I guess it really does not matter as I'm in WA state till the end of the year and WA state does not honor a CHL from TX.

But I still want it

Waiting . . . . . . . . . . . .
