Anyone know about the Backwoods Hunting show this weekend @ the OKC Fairgrounds? I was told that part of it is a gun show, and I was told that there is a gun show in a neighboring building. I don't do much hunting, but I might be up for a gun show. Thanks.

Guys, I'm gonna tell you it ain't worth the money. That Backwoods show is full of red necked bubbas peddling their bullshit to get your money. Being a really big bullshitter, it's not hard for me to spot another master. I can't hold a candle to some of those clowns. Most of those guys at the Backwoods shows are aiming for doctors/lawyers/oil execs that want to be catered to on "special hunts".
Years ago I used to hunt the Foss goose lease that Paul Newsome was on. The guy was super friendly when he wanted to get a certain blind and film only him or his "entourage" shooting Canadians. You could see the SOB two days later and he wouldn't even acknowledge your presence. And he'll be the friendliest guy at the Backwoods if he's there.
It's all about money and I can't stand that shit when it comes to the average guy hunting.
We use to hunt turkey off of the Cimarron up by Waynoka. Some jerk named Milton Rose leased the place for a few hundred bucks then went to charging $200 a day to hunt on that place. He always used to be at the Backwoods show a few years ago.
My son was talking to a guy about turkey hunting on his place. He wanted $500 for two guns to hunt turkey. I told Matt it wasn't worth it. He went to Canton one day and killed a tom, then went to Packsaddle the next and killed another. If he had listened to those bull shitting bubbas wearing a camofluage hat and shirt at the Backwoods, he would have wasted several hundred bucks for a "special" turkey hunt.
As far as Metcalf's Gun Show, I guess can cover all 35 tables pretty quickly.

Yep, and no kiss with it either

I dont go to the hunting part. Only the gunshow. You know how it is. Us country boys get a chance to come into the big city, see the sights and all I usually hit Brigadoons, OAS, maybe H&H. Its entertainment to me.

not me man, I got plenty of guns, I head up to the big city, then I'm looking to listen to some live musak, drink a little booze and hook up with some pussy attached to a drunk, desparate and horny woman.

This sounds like what I'm up to. Hopefully H&H will have the night sights I've been waiting for, and then I'll probably just go to the gunshow for a while.

I may get the urge from time to time to do that too. For some reason my wife just does not see the same benefits from that

BrokeBackBionicKneeMountainDan...WRONG....my old man is out there! And he ain't a "redneck bubba peddling shit" as you put it. He has THE BEST Antler Mounting Kits known to man. Don't believe me? Just ask me I'll tell ya! Or go there....and he'll tell ya! Earls Designs....thats the place....he does mounting kits for all 50 states so if you kill yer trophy buck (or a first buck or if you just like mountin the racks) lets say in TX....he has the TX State plaque for them antlers....or Oklahoma....or where ever you shoot it, he's got it. It aint crap.....like I said, he has the BEST Mounting Kits known to man!! Pat has a few of his kits and yeah I know Pats a fairly shady character....but he speaks the truth about my old man and what he has out there at the BackWoods show. Dan, as usual you need to get yer facts straight before spoutin off....

Rat, i know how good your dad's stuff is. And your dad is NOT a bull shittin' bubba peddling empty promises. Your dad has substance to what he does. My point was there are too many smoke blowers set up at the Backwoods show to pay $10 to listen to tons of  BS.
The Backwoods show would have a whole lot more creditability if it had MORE people there like your dad.

I know a guy that booked a bear hunt in Canada with one of the outfitters at the Backwoods show. According to him, he never saw a bear the whole time he was hunting, the food was crappy, they didn't even have an alternate time killer like fishing, and he was bunked with some loud snoring turkey that kept him awake with his snores and farting.
He wanted a refund for his $3500, all or part. They told him they would give him $500 off of his next hunt......
I set him up with a friend in Taos County, NM. He got a medium size cinnamon colored, 450 lb black bear. He was out less than one large for the whole trip, including the gas to get out there.
My point is that the Backwoods show is full of outfitters looking to take skin guys with money that don't want to get their hands dirty, want to be catered too, etc. And will pay through the nose for it.
Personally I think that sucks because every once in a while they catch someone who is spending his hard earned money for what he thinks is a once is a lifetime chance and gets a royal screwing.
It pisses me off something fierce. When I elk hunt in New Mexico, I don't wait for the wrangler to come up with the mule and/or let him gut the elk, then load it up and take it back to camp..
I'll drive all the way back to town to pick up the Mexicans who do it for me!

Seriously, the only guy I would elk hunt with again is my son. He's never dropped one, skinned one side, rolled it over and skinned the other side. Then cut the damn thing up into smaller pieces and haul it out by foot, gasping for air with every step at 8000 ft.
It ain't worth paying $5000 to $7500 to have it done for you. If you're big enough to pull the trigger, you're big enough to take care of your kill yourself.
Then Backwoods show isn't full of hunters, it's full of money takers.

I went to Backwoods on Friday, 90% of the booths are guides selling hunting or fishing trips, extremely expensive, I noted one of them was selling safaris in South Africa, but they had a special on big game hunting in Colorado, they had a guided hunt for only $7500 per person!
