We have an old barn. Field stone and mortar foundation. Skimmed over in places. Timbers with flaking white-wash.
Anyone have experience cleaning this stuff up and painting it?

There are lots of different ways to tackle it, depending on budget.

I just know a few old folk who put boiled linseed oil on the beams in the inside once in a while. I'm not a structural engineer, but I know an old timer or two.
