Just heard on the news...
Barrett plans toss his hat in the ring for Governor. Conservatives/Republicans better come up with someone good to run against him. Carl |

I saw this today too. I wonder how this will play out. Barrett is a big name Dem, but I wonder (hope maybe) if that will work against him statewide. It's pretty much a given that MIL and MAD will vote for any donkey that the Dems put up. But the rest of the state is more middle of the road - sometimes voting Dem, sometimes Repub. Folks statewide may see the big city Dem as something they don't want. His name recognition may work against him as people might be tired of spending their taxes propping up Milwaukee's failings.
Scott Walker seems to be the best positioned on the Repub side. I think he has the most $$ on the Repub side (always important). And he's spent a lot of time and effort pushing for less spending and lower taxes in his time in Gov. Statewide, that may play very well. JMO and probably a lot of personal hoping as well. In any case, I think this election is pretty wide open at this point. |

I'm annoyed. I was hoping that Doyle had left the WI Democratic establishment in such disarray, we'd have Walker or Newman swept in.
However, Barrett still has a big uphill battle. 1. Outstate antipathy for Milwaukee. Barrett represents it. Walker represents a thorn in the Milwaukee establishment's side at least. 2. Barrett was dragged into this kicking and screaming. (behind the scenes at least) 3. Barrett, despite being a worthless liberal, is also a "decent man", Doyle won by twisting arms, making deals, and outright corruption. 4. Mid-term election syndrome. Obama/Democrat numbers are already in free-fall, and Doyle and the Democrat's negative baggage from the WI state budget is enormous. |
|
Barrett just doesn't seem that into it, it's pretty transparent he's a Democrat puppet. I think the dems hope him getting his face beat in will garner sympathy votes. Why do you think Obama had to fly out out Madison to give a quick speech at a middle school a few weeks ago?? He and Doyle were personally tying the puppet strings to Barrett.

who here does not believe that Barrett has been orchestrating a run since before his attack? i dont. this is shaping up to be a tough election cycle for Dems. also, remember that to win in wisconsin dems need to sweep milwaukee and dane county (madison) by 10% margins or more. if they dont, GOP wins. Walker breaks the milwaukee stranglehold (or at least will keep it in check enough). walker is the DNC's worst nightmare come true and if i were barret the time to run would be in a DNC high tide year (2006, 2008) and not in a GOP high tide year. |

The Wisconsin State Journal, aside from being in madison, will probably endorse barrett. They claim to be a conservative or middle ground stance paper, but when they endorse scumbag doyle, high court appointment panels (with a straight face saying "neutral"), and back the DNR veto without bringing up doyles campaign promises, you just know which way they are going to lean. The papers are a big influence. I don't doubt the WSJ played a big role in the last doyle reelection when they endorsed him.
We're just going to have to do our part and point out that with the dems, campaign of corruption is their modus operandi, not a talking point. |
| My money is on Newman all the way. Walker is a douche and Barrett is a pussy liberal. No one knows or gives a shit who Walker is outside of Milwaukee Co. except for when he gets on his Harley and drives around the state trying to make a name for himself. Lately Walker reminds me of the last South Park episode. |
|
I've heard Newman is a bit of a tool and a fool. He left a bad reputation behind in Lake Mills. I do not know if complaints about him are valid.
Besides, plenty of politicians are able to slough off a local image and portray themselves differently to a wider audience. |
|
Newman is a bit like sandpaper..........rubs a lot of people the wrong way. In addition, his son walks around riding his daddy's coat tails while sticking his chest out..........it's quite pathetic. I think Walker would be a much better alternative.
Whoever becomes governor next is going to be in over their head with regard to our state's financial crises............Wisconsin is currently listed as one of eight states that is currently going bankrupt.................to much spending on to many government programs all the while not raising taxes in order to keep the masses from going loco. If the state goes bankrupt don't expect the feds to come rushing in to save us.......they have more problems than they can handle right now and Wisconsin wouldn't rise to the top of any "must save" list very fast. |

Newman is indeed a tool.
A tool that's infinitely more desireable than Barrett or Doyle, that's for sure, and will get my vote if he wins the primary, but he's trying to position himself as a "green conservative" with his solar power house business or whatever he's doing right now, and he's in the pocket of the Ethanol/Corn scam industry as well. We'll see the whole state go to 10% Ethanol gas under Newmann, and the Milwaukee metro to 15%... All the while driving costs up, and our gas mileage down, and tax money subsidies go to corn growers and the Ethanol fermenters who can't seem to make an honest buck on their renewable fuel... I'm not sure what's wrong with Walker, other than outstate knee-jerk antipathy for Milwaukee in general. Walker is a fiscal hawk, has tons of experience battling the entrenched liberal Milwaukee County machine, and will sign a CCW bill. I'm not sure what his negatives are exactly. The state needs the guy who's defined his entire executive branch carreer over butting heads with Milwaukee County for every damn penny. IMO, if you're an out-stater who hates Milwaukee, then vote for Walker, it'll be the ultimate rebuke. |
