Can anyone recommend a good starting course/class to take in the Louisville area? I'm not an idiot with firearms but I am relatively new and know there is much to learn (I think). I'm speaking more of safety class first unless the four rules are pretty much it.

If you have a designated carbine and some basic gear set up, Lawdog ( member here on arfcom) had a course both basic and advanced. Only $50. However, not enough people signed up for it. Im sure if you can round up some friends as interested as you he may get it back up. I believe the courses were in late September.

We do private lessons at Bluegrass Indoor Range.  These are pistol based, however, as we can't shoot the .223 in the range.  The lesson is 2 hours, $75 for one person, $100 for two people.  Range fee and targets are included in that price.

What kind of training is involved with this class?

A normal lesson starts at the beginning; this is a revolver, this is a pistol, these are different types of ammo, etc.  However, if you're experienced, you can discuss what you'd like to learn with the instructor and you can start at a more advanced level.
