4th installment of the Basic Course.

I am a former United States Marine Corps Scout/Sniper. In addition to being a Scout/Sniper, I also served tours as a Small Arms Instructor, Marine Security Guard and Range NCOIC of the Stone Bay Pistol Range, the main and largest pistol range of Camp Lejeune, NC. I was a Jungle Patrol Leader for the Marine Barracks, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines and shot competitively for the 2nd Bn 8th Marines Rifle/Pistol Team. I was a Scout/Sniper Team Leader in Operation Restore Hope, Mogadishu, Somalia.

I trained with American military units such as FAST Co, Marine Force Recon, ANGLICO, US Navy SEALs, and the US Army Rangers. I also trained with numerous foreign military units, including 2e Etranger 1e Compagnie of the French Foreign Legion, the British Royal Marines, Canadian Airborne, Royal Dutch Marines, Philippine Marines, Russian Naval Infantry and the ROK Marines.

I hold Instructor certifications from various government and private entities for Sniper/CounterSniper/Precision Rifle, Carbine, Shotgun, Pistol, SMG, Less Lethal, Use of Force and Tactics. I have been a Sniper and Sniper Instructor for over 20 years. I am also a Remington 700 Armorer.

Usually, my Precision Rifle/Sniper Classes are held on a one-on-one basis, or in small groups of 3 or less.

I will be teaching a 1-day Precision Rifle class in the College Park area on August 21, 2011.

Cost will be $150 per person, due NLT than July 21. I will be limiting the class to 20 students. Course fee is non-refundable, although I will move you to a future class if you can't make this one.

Topics covered will include (but aren't limited to):
Selection, care and maintenance of the entire system (rifle, scope, rings, mounts, ammunition, bipod, cases, etc.). This includes a comprehensive disassembly and other Armorer's tips.
Marksmanship basics
Use of a mil-based or other ranging reticle for ranging unknown distance targets
Use of optics (including adjustments and all other functions)
Use of data book
Zeroing (at the end of the course, you will have dope for a minimum of every 50 yards from 100 yards to 400 yards)
CCB/CHB/HFB

Gear list will include:

Rifle capable of 1MOA. Bolt actions and semi-automatics are both welcome
Quality optics. The following features are mandatory on the optic:
-Finger adjustable turrets with audible/tactile “clicks”, MOA or mil are fine
-Ranging reticle, mil or MOA based are both acceptable
Ammunition, 100 rounds. Ammunition must be "match grade" from a reputable manufacturer, or known handloads of equal or better accuracy
Data book w/ calculator (any calculator that multiplies and divides will work.  I highly recommend the Storm Tactical modular rite in the rain databooks)
Rifle-mounted bipod, or front rest
Rear bag(s) (optional)
Shooting mat (optional)
Minimum 5 “dummy” rounds if you are shooting a caliber other than .308 Winchester
Spotting scope (optional)
Eye and ear protection
Clothes and footwear appropriate to the weather. If it rains, we train, as long as there is no thunder/lightning.
If you are military/LE, it is preferred that you use your duty gear, body armor and other ancillary equipment that you will use on duty. Train like you fight!

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. If you plan on using a rifle other than a bolt action tactical or varmint model from Remington, Savage, Winchester, FN, or a custom-built rifle

and/or

a scope made by other than Nightforce, Leupold, US Optics, IOR, Schmidt & Bender, Premier Reticles, Vortex Viper PST, Bushnell Elite series or Sightron SIII you must contact me so that we can discuss your system and make sure that it will meet the requirements of the course.

2. Your system must be fully assembled and sighted in with a recent 100 yard zero prior to the class. The zero must be done with the ammunition that you will be using in the class. I offer my services for free to any of my students who need assistance with any rifle or optics work, or zeroing, that they may need.

3. Ammunition must be “match grade” from a known manufacturer, or handloads that you have shot out of the rifle you are bringing to the class and are sure of their accuracy.

4. A bipod or ruck to shoot off, as well as a rear bag. For a bipod, I highly recommend the Harris BRM-S (6”-9”, notched leg, swiveling). If you wish to purchase a rear bag, excellent models are available from Gunner’s Gear. http://gunnersgear.com/

5. If you don't have some sort of adjustable cheekpiece, or cheekpad, I recommend one. The comb of your stock needs to be high enough that your cheek bone rests on it naturally when you have a perfect sight picture, not your jawbone or the middle of your cheek. Ask several of my former students and they'll tell you this makes a HUGE difference.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about any of your gear. I would rather sort the problems out ahead of time than have you show up at the class with gear that won't work, or that is set up wrong.

I will reiterate, I offer my services for free to students when it comes to mounting up scopes/bases/rings (including lapping the rings), weighting and texturing stocks, and any other tweaking that your system may need. I will also assist in getting your rifle zeroed prior to the class.

At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

I am a Georgia POST certified Instructor. If you are a LEO and bring a C12 to the class, I will sign off on it and you can turn it in to your Training Staff, or directly to POST, for credit.

Please respond here and let me know if you will be attending. Payment is in advance to reserve your spot. If you assure me that you are in, and that the payment is enroute, I will consider your spot HELD. Below is a roster of the students who are signed up. Please IM me for payment info, I will be acccepting checks, MO's and PayPal.

Feel free to call me at (678) 523-7522 if you have any questions.

Thank you and Semper Fi!

I have 1 "loaner" rifle available for the course. It's a modified Remington 700 Police in .308 topped with an IOR 6-24x50mm. Very accurate, solid rifle. I'll rent it to a student for $50 for the day, you supply the ammo.

I might have another loaner rifle available for the class, if you don't get one set up in time.

Awesome, thank you ... but I think I found one today. So excited!

Now I need to make sure it's the right one for me. See you Sunday.

I just found this thread.

I know the payment deadline is past, but if you're still taking people, put me on the list.

I should have a new 700 prior to the class, but if a loaner becomes available, over and above the one already spoken for; I'll rent it.

Or, this old Infantryman would certainly be interested in the private classes.

Just a few slots left.  More than likely, this will be the last Basic Precision Rifle class I do of the year, unless you sign up for the more expensive private lessons.

I would love to go, just put together a SPS AAC, only problem is I need to get it zeroed, is there a close range to Grayson for 100  yards  besides Covington which requires a membership?

REDX, if you can meet me the day before the class, at the same facility, I can get you zeroed.

Learned a lot that will help me with future project decisions.

Great information and teaching in classroom and on dirt as well.

Partner competition was cool. I was afraid because I thought we were going to have to get on spotting scopes and actually call shots.

Thank you for everyone who brought out your great equipment which gives me an opportunity to learn what goes into everything. The shooting itself was pretty much the numbest dumbest part of the day for me. I was sucked into the learning.

Will post pictures soon. If anyone else took pictures feel free to share, especially if I'm in any. I like to send stuff to family and show them what I'm doing, whether they understand it or not.

Well, once you get beyond retard shit like turning your knobs the wrong way checking your zero , that class is a great one where you can learn some useful stuff about shooting, your equipment (and what you want to change on it), and where you need work.

an excuse to spend the day at the range shootin where nobody can come bother you about shit is just icing on the cake! i vote next time we scrounge enough tents to cover the firing line. surely between what everyone's got we could make some measure of progress in that regard!

Thanks, Shep, for a great class. I can safely say I have never had that much improvement per round fired, anywhere, ever, since I first learned to operate a rifle.

It's my brother's rifle.  Custom .308 by HD Rifles on a Rem700 action with a Shilen barrel and trigger, scope is an IOR 3-18x42mm.

I got a buddy who does duracoating.  I can get your stock skins coated in less than a week, in any color you want, or possibly even a camo pattern.

Had a great time with the entire class.  We had a few hiccups during zeroing that caused us to run a little late, but better late then early!

Congratulations to coastal_shredder for winning the Top Shooter competition.  Accurate, fast shootin'...........that's what it's all about!

I've been considering a camo dip, but the patterns al have gigantic logos on them in the camp pattern.  How much we talking for a duracoat job on the skins in a camp pattern?
