What are your favorite breweries in NY? I'm planning a suds tour for June and want to hit the best micro breweries NY has to offer. Ommegang in Cooperstown and Adirondack in Lake George are locked in. With Cooperstown, the Capital District, Lake George and possibly Lake Placid all under consideration, which places need to be on our "must go there" list? |

I like Cooperstown Brewing co

| If you're heading up the Northway from Lk G. to Lk Placid, get off at exit 27 for Schroon Lk, right down to Rte 9 and left heading north on 9. Not even 100 yards up on the right side is Paradox Brewery. A nice little micro brewery with small batch runs. They do growlers too. |

I tried #FREEDOM last week, they're out of Buchanan.
I'm not a beer snob or expert, but I'll give it few months before trying them again. I really want to support local purveyors of my 3rd or 4th favorite thing in life. Especially with Freedom in the name. (The nerve!) It was a (berry ?) ale that was quite flat, and had a dry red wine after-taste. I strongly believe that New Yorkers should start brewing and distilling for private sale, to kill a portion of tax proceeds. Along with a myriad of additional Fuck-You's to our elite, little, pygmies.
1509 HRS. Edited for mistaken name. Not #Liberty, actually #Freedom. |

FX Mattsd/Utica Club/Saranac brews a lot of stuff for other brewers on a contract basis and they have a col tour, I've gone up there for the tour ever since I was a kid. I'm not crazy about Saranac beers but I love that little brewery and its history. Too bad they don't make Maximus Super anymore. ;)

Cortland brewery, in Cortland, good stuff and selections for every taste. Hopshire between Dryden & Ithaca (just celebrated first year), nice little family run operation that have many products produced from NY homegrown ingredients. Double Barrel brewing in East Syracuse (new start up small batch brewer, always something new on tap). Got to like the name and logo, the proprietor/brewer, Pete, is good people. Also a family business. I also like Middle Ages in Syracuse, but the location and trying to get through the squatters at the small tasting bar is a PITA at times.
I bring growlers every where I travel now, never know what I'm coming home with next..... |

Captain Lawrence in Elmsford, NY. edit: Just noticed where Elmsford is, so you probably won't be down that way, but they do make some good beer. Awesome IPA. Drinking a few right now. http://<a href=http://i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q659/talrx1/7403CA95-DC4C-4E3D-A637-459C032851E9_zpsuggeuyrv.jpg</a>" /> Yes, that is an awesome beer. If you like that one..then you want to find a bottle of Captain's Reserve Imperial IPA. Another great beer by that brewery. Might be their best. |

Two Goats on Seneca Lake as some great brews. http://www.twogoatsbrewing.com/ Horseheads Brewery has been around awhile now, most of their stuff doesn't suit my palate but I'm an IPA snob. I like some of the stuff from Southern Tier, the Pumpking is probably the most known but I like the 2X IPA too. Ellicotville makes the Mow Master...which is exactly what I use it for....not yet but soon. I like mostly Micro IPAs from Smuttynose, Victory, Ballast Point, once it gets warm ( if ever this year) I switch to hoppy pilsners, Victory Prima Pils, Heavy seas Small Craft warning Uber Pils, Sammy Nobel Pils. |

Butternuts in Garratsville makes some pretty good summer time beers, particularly the Pork Slap
Naked Dove in Canandaigua another +1 for Brown's - the Cream Ale and Black Lager are solid offerings Schmaltz is another stop in the capital region - good beers, nothing that i've found to love, but nothing that wasn't drinkable, either. Haven't had any from Southern Tier that I haven't enjoyed a lot. The 2X IPA, Phin & Matt, 422, Unearthly and Farmer's Tan are all real good. Ithaca Beer Co. |

Good evening (for the week) felons!
Tonight's review is that of a small outfit from Long Island, also listed in Rochester. (breweries) Blue Point. I tried the "Toasted Lager" on the recommendation of a local wench. (My favorite, by the way....and, in NO way to diminish the wife) The bar-tap was cold and delicious. I bought a 6-er tonight, and after paying considerable attention,.... I stand by my initial opinion. Just a nice, mellow, compliment to a light, meal. A GREAT beer to serve your guests. (So they don't think you're a complete savage) |
