[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Bi-pod mount

I have an AR with an aluminum free float forearm. It doesn't have rails or anything, just smooth. Im sure it depends on personal preference, but what are the best ways to mount a bi-pod in this setup? Thanks in advance!

When you say smooth, you mean it has zero holes in it? Sounds like a tap and die set will be needed. But I honestly don't know.

If there are no holes, you can drill/tap a 10-32 for a sling swivel mount style bipod, or you could drill two 3/16 holes and mount a small rail for a rail mount bipod.

What brand forearm? I know YHM (and probably others too) has a bipod stud you can add to theirs.

It is a Hogue, all aluminum, no rubber. I have it mounted on a swivel stud at the moment. Was just wondering if there is anything stronger. The studs just don't seem very studly. ;)

the stud is plenty sturdy to hold it if it's correctly installed/ tightened etc.

if the stud is correct, the issue is with your bipod.

if you have a quality sling swivel stud, it'll be at least grade 2 and tensile strength of 660 lbs.

there are literally tens of thousands (or more) slings, swivels, bipods etc attached with these and they are doing the job all over the world.
