Yep. They are the recognized State Breed of dog Texas. They are not recognized by any major US or foreign registry. They are bred as a game/hunting dog and I am not certain how accurate their stud books are, but their single breed registry is the LGDR.  They come in blue (grey) which is just a dilution of the black gene and red (e-locus yellow)



Temperament is supposed to be good, typical to that of most sporting/hunting breeds. Like that of any breed or mix, I am sure there are genetic issues lurking, so if considering one, seek a breeder who has the intelligence and concern enough for the breed to at least have the hips checked clear of hip dysplasia and certified with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and eyes cleared by an opthamologist. A potentially crippled, blind hunting dog isn't what most people want to buy.

They are rumored to be a good breed. I am partial to Australian Shepherds myself, but I don't hunt, I herd.

we have a blue lacy, wonderful , smart dog...they are high energy,but don't like loud noises.....we are gonna have blue lacy,australian shepherd pups (oops)..here in a few weeks if anyone is interested
