i understand that illinois was a "blue" state during the last presidential election. is it possible to be a 'moderate' (and turn out voting for a democratic candidate) and still like to own and shoot guns? i call myself a 'moderate' because i have conservative leanings on some issues and liberal leanings on others. it seems like many posters on this site and my fellow shooters are staunch, bleed red, republicans. which btw, is perfectly fine with me, as everyone is entitled to their opinion. flame away! |

I'm not gonna flame ya. I know several democrats that are pro-gun, and I know a few republicans that are anti. Whether you call yourself a dem or repub or moderate or liberal or conservative, you have to vote for who YOU think is going to do the best for you. I am a card carrying rebublican, but have voted for democrats before. Mainly because I know the demo candidate and what he believes in, and it's not the stereotypical socialist ideas. so to answer your question, yes. |
It all depends on which issues are you conservative on, and which are you liberal on... |
+1 I vote for the 2nd amendment first. Wether that means Republican or Democrat is up to the candidate. In IL, that mostly means voting for Republicans.....course I just turned 19 (I was 18 for the election) so that means I have only had one chance to vote so far. WIZZO EDIT: We aren't Blue staters. We're a Red state with one Blue pit controlling the rest of the state |

The state went blue during the election, but only selected areas. A county breakdown shows alot of red. In theory I like to vote for the person, not the party. In reality, that doesn't always work out right. If I were to like a Democrat, it would still be difficult for me to vote for him. He might be a great guy and a shooter to boot. But by voting for him, I'm helping to assure that the Dems could take control of a chamber of legislature. If they are in control of that chamber, my great guy shooter Democrat will probably be lost in the shuffle. It will be the anti gun liberals who will set the agenda and control what legislation moves from committee to floor. In all reality, the guy that I would have voted for will probably end up voting for the same liberal trash that controls the chamber. He knows that if he doesn't vote for the Dem leader of his chamber that's been there since dirt, his legislation will get buried. He will have to play the game just to get along. It's a bitch, but that's the way it is, and it's no secret. A prime example. There is a good Democratic State Senator in one of the southern districts. He has gone to bat for gunowners several times in the last few yrs. He sits on an important committee, and he's voted consistently in our favor. He sat on the same committee as a rabid antigunner that voted against us every chance he got. This antigunner ran for US Senate (Obama). The party had the progun Dem take Obama down to his southern district and parade him around, to get all of the good ole boys to vote for this black anti-gunner from Chicago. A person needs to visit some of these little rural communities to truly appreciate the irony of this. He bucked heads with Obama on several issues. But when the party came a callin', they stood side by side waving and shaking hands. As good of a guy as he is, he still has to play the game. I like the games that the Dems play less than I like the games that the Repubs play. I consider myself moderate with a strong conservative bent. By that, I mean that I don't swallow any party's platform hook, line, and sinker. But, the Republican would have to be pretty piss poor for me to vote for a Democrat. |
I hate Liberals and all they stand for. I am 100% conservative and believe if you own guns, you are off your rocker to vote Democrat. If you aren't a Liberal at 20, you don't have a heart. If you are still a Liberal at 30, you don't have a brain. |
Is that Ronald Reagan? I grew up where he was born. I'm 19, and not what I would call Liberal (which is why I'm a member of ARFcom WIZZO |
This fits my own position exactly. Just to add for the benefit of the topic creator, Illinois operates very differently from national as most if not all of the Democrats south and west of Chicago are pro-gun and very independant of Chicago Democrats. This balances out the RINOs in the suburbs. Sorry but voting Republican in this state does not protect your guns. We can't ignore the pro-gun Democrats, that would be suicide. Pro-gun Democrats have saved our asses many times and they are the only thing standing between us and the Chicago Democrats. I don't vote Republican or Democrat, I vote pro-gun. I don't vote for anybody who is anti-gun no matter what. |
| LOL,Sorry republicans suck too.George Ryan turned carrying a loaded firearm in your car into a felony.Who signed in mandatory seatbelt laws, dropped the legal limit for intoxication? Both parties like to take your freedoms. When people stop compromising,we might get somewhere. A vote for the lessor of two evils is still a vote for evil. |

The only "assault weapons ban" (i.e., the import ban that resulted in the destruction of many, many, W.W.II and Korean War "Imports" of U.S. manufactured weapons being sent back to the United States) still on the books was signed into law by George H.W. Bush, who lobbied for it heavily. Just to show that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree: his idiot son ran in 2004 promissing to sign a law to make permanent the sun-setting Clinton AWB. Ronald Reagan supported the Brady Bill (named after his Press Secretary!). Many of the worst gun contol laws in California were pushed by Pete Wilson and the then-Republican controlled California legislature. Same thing in New York and Illinois. If people think that Republicans (especially Republican presidents) will protect their gun rights, they are drinking the cool-aid. Semper Fi |
R.Reagan also signed the '86 ban on MG mfg. for civi's |
Forgot one! Thanks! More cool-aid please! |
You are 100% correct. That's why we have to get involved. |
Point well taken WIZZO. Chicago(and apparently the East STL area controll the rest of the state.) Get rid of Daley, Blago, et al and we will be fine. |
| Paging Dr BK1, . Paging Dr. BK1. Reagan opened up a lot of doors for us. The freaking dems Slammed them with BULL SHIT. I got into this before, the Bee Keeper can ' splain it a lot better and civil to you than I want to. If he has the time to do it, he is propably resting after cleaning up the shit in what ever fourms that are bee/ ing polluted . |
| I vote mostly Republican but every so often will vote for a Democrat that's pro-gun. Case in point was Poshard running against Ryan. Most of the Republicans blindly voted for Ryan, where Poshard (dem) was so conservative he made Ryan look like the flaming liberal crook, that he was. |
I guess that I didn't have a heart since 14. |
