Hi all Me and my dad have always wanted to go boar hunting. We both have hunted our whole lives. But there are no hogs in Yankee-land. Seems most states in the South have year round hog hunting on private land, like we have for coyotes up here. We are looking for anyone willing to let a couple guys bow-hunt for hogs. I looked all over the internet but all I find are ads for guides. We don't want a guide or anybody to dress out the hogs for us, just some land where there are some at and somebody to let us on that land. We'd be willing to pay a small fee for it, if need be. Despite being from the north we both grew up along the Ohio River and are not the stuffy types from up around Chicago or Indy. Are there any places where people advertise this type of thing? Any help would be more appreciated than you know. Jeremy |

There are a lot of hogs around the MS river delta. Your best bet is to check out our state WMAs. Plus, Dahomey NWR will have a hog hunt sometime this year. With that being said, those things are very hard to hunt. Most people take em while deer hunting. There is no real way to prepare for how they move, they have super hearing and are more skiddish than deer. You may have luck stalking them in the brush if you are from out of town and don't have a couple months to locate, track, and wait for some pigs. I know you don't want a guide or anything like that, but I have heard some good things about those ebay hunts in TX for hogs and varmints. Yeah, it costs money, but it may be worth it the way gas prices are these days. Oh, I think the MS website is www.mwfp.com and that will give the info on areas and fees. Good luck |

If you're gonna do hogs, then I would go to La or Tx. particularly around Jena La is where we used to go. I paid 150 for anything less than 2" tusks, and it was all work taken care of and lunch. You can get as many or few as you like in 1 day, and you can pick your style of hunting. Versus spending 2-3 days in a hotel, it could come out to the same money.South Texas is also one of my favorite places, and never know what you'll see there... Kael |
+1 on plenty of hogs at Bankhead. Not sure about guide service from Wilburn's, as I've heard they are not too good on the whitetail hunts they book on their property in Illinois. If I was not pressed for time I would find a place like Bankhead where hogs are plentiful and the costs is cheap and go guide myself. Bankhead and Sipsey Wilderness is awesome. Fairly rough terrain, so it's not for the grossly out of shape. Cheap places to stay in Double Springs if you do Bankhead. |
