The girlfriend and I will be heading to Destin on the 26th and not returning until the 3rd.

We have both agreed to give up the internet (except email) for that time. So no ar15 or GPDO for me and no Facebook for her.
Our big thing will just be relaxing and reading.
I am just now starting to really read for fun (hating reading in school).

I need to pick up some books before or while down in Destin.
Some that I have just finished or soon to finish are:

The Lone Survivor by Marcus Latrell
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
Shooter by Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlin, Capt. Casey Kuhlman, and Donald Davis
I plan to pick up Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman tonight

I like to jump back and forth between fiction and non-fiction.

So HTF, do you have any recommendations on good fiction or non-fiction books for me to get my hands on? Any must reads?

I want to read Eneimes Foreign and Domestic by Matthew Bracken, but I do not have enough time to order it and get it before I leave, since I cant find a store with it in stock.

Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers Once, and Young are going on my list, I just don't know if I want to read them yet.

Thanks

I like "Gods and Generals", and "The Glorious Cause" by Jeff Shaara.  Also, "Rise to Rebellion", "Gone for Soldiers".  His dad wrote "The Killer Angels"

"Band of Brothers" is excellent.

"Without Remorse" is a Tom Clancy  book I'm currently in the middle of re-reading.

Good conservative fiction: any Vince Flynn book.  "Pursuit of Honor" is a good beach read.

One Bullet Away - LT account of GK - also reccomended
Sniper One
The Good War
A Snipers Journey
The Victors
Steel My Soldiers Heart
House to House
WWZ
Into The Wild
Tucker Max's I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell - LOTS OF ROFL

Where in Destin you staying? I'm down there 4 or 5 times a year.

I am an idiot of forgetting about these two.

Both are good reads and provide insight into life as a a grunt in Marine Corp, warts and all.

Generation Kill is some what controversial but worth your time.

GK and One Bullet away were big influences on my choice to go back into the Corps.

Vince Flynn is great but if you haven't read any of his books, start with the first in the Mitch Rapp series: Transfer of Power.  If you do not want to get into a series get his very first novel: Term Limits.
Also, Daniel Silva is a great author about Israeli intelligence - his main character is an assassin for Mossad.   David Baldacci's Camel Club series is very good.

The best, most well written narrative of the Civil War out there.  I'm on my third reading.

The Civil War: A Narrative ~ Shelby Foote

That was a good book.

For my part, I recommend you pick up a new book, The Road, by Cormac McCarthy.  You will spend a good 4-5 hours engrossed in it and forgetting the world around you.

I do not want to tell you anything more so as not to ruin it.

Not really in the genre you listed, but if you get a chance the Eye of the World series by Robert Jordan was something I enjoyed.  It's in the same vein as Lord of The Rings.

Leadership and Training for the Fight by Paul Howe. Has tons of useful insights from a guy who has been there and done that. I really learned a lot about my mindset after reading this.

You don't have enough time, but 'We the living' or 'The virtue of selfishness' might fit.

Heck, take 'Anthem' and read the appreciation sections over a good chianti...might work well for nookies.
