We have them at work. I don't own one personally. They have a couple of models at Harbor Freight for $100 and $200. I've been tempted by them to inspect cylinders and lower ends without tearing stuff down.
I'm hoping that someone else buys one and evaluates it to decide if it's worth my money.

I've got one that I use for opening safes, but I'm nowhere near MKE (thank God).  Mine will only fit about a .30 caliber or larger barrel (requires a 5/16" hole to use the 90 degree mirror attachment) and it only extends to about 14". It's not made to inspect gun barrels but to peer into a hole drilled into a safe lock and allign the tumblers ... works great for that, but I have used it to "look" at pistol barrels too.
The video scopes sold by Harbor Freight are way too large to fit into anything but a shotgun barrel... or maybe a .50 cal. One has a head diameter of 8.5mm and the other is 16mm. They're even larger when you put on the clip-on mirror, which you must do to see 90 degrees. |
