When's the next build party in Houston?  There is a gun show comiing up next weekend at the GRB and I'm going to finish out the purchases to build at least 1 AR...maybe two.

Would love to have some one host it in the Houston area...since I don't have any tools.  Plus it's more fun to build together, right?

I remember attending one a long long time ago at "Northwest Houston Tactical (?)" near Kuykendahl......  it was great (and cold weather).

I can bring some pot-luck food and snacks.....

Let me know!!

I'd be interested in this as well.  I've got a couple AK parts kits and receivers that I would like to put together sometime soon.

build party at HKPhanatic's house!
BYOtools.  food will be provided by the host.

sorry, don't see the "fun" in building an AR15.  you are just assembling parts like LEGO blocks.  I would like to build an AK, FAL or just about any other gun.  The AR is just too easy.

LOL, it'll be a 1st for me.  So I am sure it'll get easy as I build more.

Don't think the wife would like it if had a bunch of guys over here....with guns.

Now a UFC Pay-Per-View Fight Night party is a different story......LOL.

Anyone gonna host?  I'll bring all the beer I've got!

What would be cool if someone had connections to a local dealer, who had a little space, where we all can meet up to build AR's and AK's together.  Each person can bring tools or pot luck food/snacks/drinks and share.  If anyone was missing parts, the dealer could sell them to us including but not limited to lowers, lower parts kits, stocks, handguards, adapters/mounts, etc.....

Would that be an idea?

AK builds require so much more heavy equipment. We did it at my old place, but not too many people finished their AK. It's very labor intensive.

I know everyone talks about how easy AR's are to build, but, not everyone wants to spend the $$$ on tools. I have tools up at the Rockin V, but, not the room nor bench to do AK builds. AR, sure, but not AK.  Would have to clear it with Ms. Coz...we just had a small pool party over the weekend, so I think it will be a while before we "entertain" again.

Sorry guys..

I had a great experience with learning AR build tips and tricks COZ_45 and the boys at the N.W. build party hosted at CMOS's place.

It was great to meet people to put a face to the user name, and I saw some examples of AR builds that inspired me to try some different options on my later AR builds.

I would LOVE to attend an AK build party in area so someone someplace needs to host it.  I'll volunteer for After Action Clean Up in the spirit of leave it better than you found it.

Maybe we need to chip in a shopping gift card for Ms. COZ_45 because I'm sure she would enjoy some shopping with her lady friends while we sweaty guys hammer out AKs out of her sight and mind.  Bribery worked for me when it came to gun / guy stuff & the Ms.

Well, my little bench in my "new" garage is not solid enough for the stuff needed for an AK build party.

Sorry about that...

I've got some AK stuff I need to get done, but if it was just ARs I'd still make the drive and help out.  I don't have room to host unfortunately...

12t hydraulic press and jigs to hold the reciever(may be substituted for an anvil and bigass hammer for those gorillas out there)

grinders

big hammers

good assortment of quality punches

ETA riveting tools

it's a hell of a lot of work to build one gun but being able to say "Me" when someone asks who made it is worth the price of admission.

I'd say someone who has a few builds under their belt with all the tools ready to go could probably crank one out in around 5-6 hours. my first and only complete build so far took 12

Don't forget the drill press and set of drill bits.

The trigger rivet jig doesn't look too complicated to build.  And the short front trunion rivets can be crushed on with a home-made bolt-cutter/rivet crusher.  I haven't tried it, but I think you could probably press the long rear trunion rivets on with the shop press.

I did mine with a harbor freight air chisel and a us-tools rivet set tool.  For the opposite bucking bar, I used a ferrier's rivet tool.  I would not recommend doing it that way, but it does work.  It just ain't pretty.
