I already searched, I already looked on Calguns....

If I build a rifle with a bullet button, can I legally use preban Hi Capacity magazines?  Same question on AKs with Radlock system.
Thanks!

short answer, no.  If you have a rifle that does not have a pistol and NO other evil features you can use them.  This is way people are going with the monsterman grip, you can use your legal hi-cap mags and you don't need the bullet button.

Can they be used with a REGISTERED "assault weapon"?

Longer answer:

If you have a featureless build (fixed stock, no pistol grips, no flash hider) you may use preban high standard capacity mags without a BB.

If you have a "evil" (any features listed above) build, it must have a BB and you are limited to 10 round magazines.

A registered AW can use any mags you legally posses in accordance with PC12020.  Receivers must not be on the list of PC12276.

Swatter911 is generally correct, except for this crossed out  statement:

Quoted:
Receivers must not be on the list of PC12276.

A registered AW can indeed be one listed in 12276PC - what about someone who registered a real true Colt AR15,
(or an HK91, true FN FAL, Uzi, etc.)  in 1990,  during the first (Robert-Roos) AW registration period?

It is true that those 12276PC-"named" guns, however, could not be registered during 2000's SB23 registration period
(nor during the extra 1/1/01-1/23/01 "Kasler hangover" date window.   However, Kasler-listed guns [11 CCR 5499]
were able to be reg'd in 2000 (up thru 1/23/01).

To summarize:

1.  If your rifle configuration requires a BulletButton maglock to have evil features and not be an
(illegal, unreg'd) AW, you cannot use a hicap magazine in it.  The mag must hold 10rds or less
as its max capacity.   CGF has heard of some drama up here in NorCal with some idiots who
thought otherwise (or failed to absorb repeated warnings) - and they appear to have just gotten
out of deep doo-doo by the skin of their teeth.

[I'd encourage the folks using "10/30s" to ensure any attempt to recover mag capacity well-nigh
destroys the mag, since not only could the mag risk being regarded as "not 10rds" but it could thus
also risk triggering AW status in a BB-equipped rifle.]

2. If your rifle is 'featureless' and can use detachable magazines (i.e., no BulletButton required) then
you can use any legal hicap mags you may own.

3. If you have a Registered AW, there's no need for concerns about BulletButtons: they can have
all evil features (except grenade launchers, which are intrinsically and separately illegal).

Yeah, I added that as an after thought regarding someone building one today.  In the context in which I wrote it, it's not correct.  Good catch Bill.
