I am new to the forum and new to the AR hobby, I want to upgrade my 20" Bushmaster target model for accuracy. It shoots fine, I just want to improve accuracy.

I am considering a replacement trigger. I see in the EE threads that an RRA trigger seems reasonably priced. Is it an acceptable replacement or does anyone have a better suggestion.

I am interested in free floating the barrel, but prefer to keep it looking stock. I see that the DCM free floated version are more expensive? Any advise?

And of course cost of upgrades are always a consideration.

What other accuracy or dependability changes would anyone recommend? I intend to shoot at the range, but not exclusively, as I enjoy using it in the field.

Thanks in advance.

Try different rounds, some barrels are picky and shoot much better with certain rounds. The free float will help a tad, I got the one from compass lake and it looks just like the factory set up. I have both the RRA and Chip Mccormick triggers and they are both great. I dont think the Chip is worth the extra money over the RRA. How do you intend to site the rifle? Irons, optics? This makes a difference also. The most important thing to me is shoot, shoot, shoot till you are comfortable with the rifle and know it inside and out.

Thanks for the offer, i would appreciate doing so. I saw the build party information as well. That sounds like a great way to jump start the info gathering exercise as well. When is the next one?

Thanks, I will look for the compass lake handgaurd. I am going to swap triggers first and will probably go with the RRA version based on cost if performance is relatively equal.

I have it scoped w/ a 3 x9 compact mounted on the A3 handle. I am just now realizing how the ballistics graph is affected by having the scope mounted 4
+ inches above the bore. But to answer your question, I will be shooting w/ optics most of the time. I am likely to purchase an inexpensive red dot at some point as well to try.

You are right on about the ammo variable as well. I have been trying different 62 gr. ss109 loads and have had fair results...1 -1.5 inch with some of them. I really like the Black Hills blue box 68 gr for cost performance. I tried some Federal match...great, but way to much $ for everyday.

Again, thanks for the help/suggestions...keep'em coming
