| My family tradition is to have filet mignon on Christmas and this year I am going to be providing the steaks for 5 maybe 6 people. When my folks lived in town we used to go to Larry's on Valley View since it was just down the street but I live in Henderson now so I haven't made it in there in years. Today I stopped in at Branded Meats off Horizon and picked up a couple of t-bones and checked out their price on filet. They had choice for $26/lb and prime for $33. Anyone have any other suggestions? I see there is a Valley Meats on Eastern but it seems like every other butcher shop is a 30+ minute drive each way. I'll make the drive if it is worth it. |

What time is dinner? I'll let you off the hook cheap and will settle for a ribeye. The guy that butchered your antelope is a butcher at Smiths in Hendo. |

I must be cheap...$30 for a steak? I get mine from Albertsons and have them put some Malibu rub on them Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile We only ever do it up special once a year for Christmas and my parents usually handle it but they didn't want to spend the money this year so I volunteered to bring the meat. I usually just pull up the ads and look for a sale on NY or ribeyes @ $4-5/lb and go wherever is cheapest so filet shopping is new to me. Branded Meats was my first stop so I have no idea if that pricing is out of line or not. |

Two 1.5" thick T-bones ended up costing about $50 from Branded Meats. They were really good even though even though I overcooked them but @ $17 per pound I won't be back there for myself for a long time. For that price I expected a much bigger filet on the other side of the strip. Christmas filet will be in AZ but if you want to make the trip I'll add another steak to my shopping list. Might just buy a whole tenderloin. He didn't even cross my mind. I don't really do any meat shopping at Smiths. Maybe I'll stop by and see him tomorrow. |

+1 on Costco meat.
Also I've bought a lot of filets from Albertson's in Henderson and they have always been good. They are usually on sale for about $10/lb. I think they have a filet roast on sale now. You could get a couple of those and cut them to your desired thickness. |

Haven't been to Valley Meats and Cheese on Eastern for a while, but they did carry USDA Prime meats, and you could get the steaks cut to your desired thickness (I personally like a 2" cut).
Whole Foods (also known as Whole Paycheck ) also carries USDA prime and USDA Prime dry-aged beef, but it's REALLY pricey.
Trader Joes has a pre-packaged Filet Mignon Roast that's pre-seasoned and just about the right size for two people, that runs about $10/lb, and is our current go-to for a nice steak meal. |

Costco stocks their Prime beef in blue trays and their lesser grades in white trays. Shop Costco and buy blue for good meat and good pricing. Ah that I did not know! Good tip! Lesser grade white trays is Choice cut meat, still pretty damn good meat. Grocery stores sell Select cut meat, Good but not as good as Choice. Prime is best. |

You can get entire tenderloins for around $6/lb from 99 ranch market on Spring Mountain and Valley View. The NY strip I had from there was pretty good. I LOVE that place. I buy most of my Seafood there. Seafood City on Marlyand Pky. is pretty good too. |
