Well, I've gone and done it now...  Moved to Florida this past week to chase a bigger paycheck (substantially larger).  I'll always be a Texan at heart.  That, and I plan on moving back in a few years.    I haven't been super active in this forum, but regardless, it's been a pleasure!

On the bright side, I can buy many more toys with my new salary!

Traitor!?!  I'd be offended if I wasn't so sad having left 20 years in Austin behind.

Buy more guns I shall!  And now I will be able to afford NFA toys (still have to check into the laws here in Orlando)!

Which is why I'll have to make some!  And your definition of good chili and mine are probably different anyways.  I like beans in mine.

So which is it? Did you live in Texas, or Austin?

Make sure you get a large Texas star belt buckle to wear when you get to Fla. just to let them know where your heart is. A Ranger star will work just as well. Some may think it's a CSA symbol but you will know better.

My pops moved from Texas to Florida 20 years ago to chase a split tail.  He loved it out there.  First he lived down south in Broward county and for the last 15 years he has lived up north in the St Augustine area.  I got the old man back into shooting (the BRD is set real deep) and he discovered 5 ranges within 10 minutes of his damn house.  You can not get that luck in the Dallas Ft Worth area so it looks like FL was kinder on the BRD than Ft Worth is to me.

Enjoy FL, enjoy your extra coin, don't forget to let all them southern yankees know you are from Texas but leave out the part about Austin. lol

Ouch.    Not that I wasn't expecting that sort of response anyways.    To each his own.  Just means I ain't entering any chili making competitions.

Nothing wrong with Austin.  Heck, LaRue's based around there (I used to live but 20 minutes away from them).  That's got to count for something.  And it's not like I'm the sort that walked around wearing skinny jeans and thick-framed glasses.  Does it help my street cred any if I said that I spent a good bit of time while growing up in El Paso?

geegee, I'll see about them oranges, hehe.

Make sure you check out FGE ( http://www.floridagunexchange.com/ ) in Port Orange near Daytona.
And while you're near Daytona, be sure to eat at Inlet Harbor for some of the best seafood.

At least Florida also does not have a state income tax to eat away your new salary.

You may have to learn to speak Spanish but you'd have to do that eventually if you stayed in Austin. Only difference is the illegals in Florida had to swim / paddle ninety miles instead of seventy five yards.

Yeah.  The no state income tax was a selling point for me.  I'd gotten essentially the same offer in San Diego, but I had to say "no way".  Most people didn't understand my reasoning on that.  "But San Diego's so beautiful...  You're not going because of your guns?  Something's wrong with you"    So, I had to push the state income tax and cost of living arguments to get them to understand...
