All - Can anyone give me some insight (pro/con) into Canon City and local environs? I may be applying for a job there and am interested in unbiased opinions. Also, are there any good ranges that offer action shooting? Thanks in advance for your input.

Canon City is said to have the best climate in the state.  There are shooting ranges there, though others could give details better than I could.

I haven't spent any length of time there since I was kid visiting relatives, so I can't give you a whole lot of practical info. On another forum I am involved with there are one or two members from that area, and it sounds like there is quite the selection of characters around there.

If at all possible, you should plan a trip for 3-4 days (both weekend and weekdays) to check out the town and surrounding area. Hit all the local gun shops, gunsmiths, etc. you can locate, as well as some non-firearms related businesses. Be friendly, and chat it up with the locals. You should be able to get a feel for the attitude of the area.

I know I would have reservations about relocating to someplace I knew nothing about, and have never been to.

ETA: Forgot to look at your Location, and see you are in Florida so that trip may not be workable.

Lots of prisons and when inmates get out, they tend to stay in the area. CaƱon is also home to Victory Defense. Amazing store

Canon City itself gets an immense amount of tourist traffic in the summer.  The town is laid out along the length of Highway 50, and when the traffic gets thick, it can be a real pain the backside if you are on one side of Highway 50 and your destination is on the other.

There are however some really great fly fishing along the Arkansas between Canon City and Leadville.
