| Being that my "Alabama State Pistol License" is recognized by the state, should it matter what county it was issued in? I ask because I've always gotten my permit in Morgan Co. (where I've lived) but have just recently moved to Madison and my permit will be expiring soon. From what I hear, Madison Co. seems to take a while in processing everything for some reason. Would it be a no no to get my permit renewed in Morgan Co. (my drivers license still has my residence there)? |

Otherwise all us shelby county people would hit up Jefferson county for that awesome $7.50 permit fee.

For personal convenience you can try to game the system if you like, but consider the following:
Only CCLs lawfully issued by the Sheriff of your country of residence at the time of application are valid. It would be a violation of the law for a Sheriff to knowingly issue a CCL to a non-resident of the county where they are the Sheriff. Not only can the license be denied on it's face if it contains false information, it is a separate crime to submit false information on a CCL application and you can be arrested on the spot if you try it. MikeN Fair enough, not trying to game the system or skirt the law. I was honestly just curious. The fee is the same between counties, just a lot less hassle in one. |

I would renew in the county in which you reside but any county should have your record and the renewal should be a snap. How long does it take to process In Morgon and Madison counties? In Shelby county I go in and walk out with my renewal. When I moved back to Alabama I could not believe how easy it was to get my permit again. Colorado was a bitch! My permit in Alabama was less time than getting my DL renewed. |

Yep...$37.50 for 5-years! Gotta love that! It's $20/yr in Shelby isn't it? MikeN Quoted:

Sheriff Blake Dorning in Madison county will take every bit of 30 days to process your 15 minute CCW permit. |

It's been that way for a long time. Before the latest law that was passed, Madison county would take up to 6-8 weeks to get your permit. Neighboring Limestone county would be walk in, walk out 15 minutes. No idea why Dorning can't do it any faster. But it's clear that it's deliberate. |
