Wondering if anyone knew of any CCW courses open (within the next month or so) for around $100 or under?  In KC Northland area, would be willing to drive a little bit for a decent priced available course.

Wish I could help you, but I have had to put a hold on my courses until I get some range improvements done and until it drys up some thats not going to be happening. Nothing a few hours with the bulldozer and 4ton of gravel won't fix, but its just pleasant to shoot there right now.

The last I knew most of the KC classes were about 125$ allot of them are advertised online. You might check Missouri Carry

Is Duke still doing them? I have a couple classes in March in the JC area.

In another two weeks I'll be certified to teach CCW for MO and would be happy to do a cheap class up north for anyone who wants from the HTF once I get everything in order (should be ready with a month).

performify - I'd be very interested.

I checked out MissouriCarry, but as stated most are above $100...some way above, think I saw a $175!?  Not trying to sound cheap, but am paying for my mother to take the class as well.  Tried to get into Dutch's classes but they are full up til May 15th, and was really trying to get into a class before then.

I charge $100. I discount for people bringing others to the class. Over $100 is a little over the top, unless you only have 2 or 3 in your class.

Capt512, I'm actually doing a class this Sunday, it was supposed to be March 20 but because of a scheduling issue with one of my students we had to bump it up.  I didn't advertise or anything because its such short notice, but if you have Sunday available I'd love to have you, its a small class.  Email me at [email protected] or call me at 816-868-3920 if you want to come.  Because its short notice, I'd make the class economical for you as well.

Tentatively at Lafayette Rod and Gun in Higginsville (bout a half hour's drive east of Independence).  If really inclement weather, then Crossfire in Independence, but Lafayette is covered and the weather is supposed to be warm so even if there's a chance of rain we will probably stick with plan A, Lafayette.

Well crap, no luck for me getting off this weekend, usually off, but got stuck on this one.  Duke, I know you are having a class Sunday, but do you think you would be having another in March or April?  I would really like to take the course through you preferably.

Yeah, we can make it happen, assuming I'm still around, so don't worry about it.

Just remember you get what you pay for there as well. Supposed to be an 8hr class including 70 rounds minimum fired per state law. When my buddy took it they spent three hours in class, and then fired 20 rounds in a muddy field with chickens and shit running around....Duke or Performity would be a much better choice in my opinion.

I think  you will get a lot out of Duke's Class since he can speak "Lawyer" to tell you what the ins and outs of the verbage are.

THEN you need to back it up with some ADDITIONAL CCW instruction...

I did his class last Spring and you're pretty much right. However, our class was 8hrs, w/20 rounds...semi-auto/revolver in the muddy field with chickens and shit running around.

Since the state min. round count is 70 you might want to edit that post?

I’m just getting ready to teach my first CCW class in NEMO and have worked really hard to put together what I think is a very thorough class, with information beyond just the minimum state requirements.

I know the 8 hours sucks and I know that shooting more than the bare minimum (or even actually shooting the reqd. amount!) is a big “inconvenience” but it’s hard to believe there are that many shortcuts taken. I’m afraid it could lead to instructor certification requirements being changed because Billy Bob just talks guns for half a day and only makes people shoot 20 rounds.

I’ve heard it all “Well I wanted to take your class but John Smith from X-ville’s class is only 4 hours all together.”

I'll tell ya that when I was one of the first "crash test dummies" for Duke's CCW course we could EASILY have spent the full 8 hours, and a lot more, just covering all the what-if scenarios and the related legal issues.  This is where I learned to really appreciate having a lawyer as a CCW instructor.

And the shooting range test portion is a joke considering the number of complete noobs that will be walking into their CCW class with a brand new gun, having likely never fired a round before in their life.

But as usual, opinions vary.

When I took my CCW class the instructor was a pretty nice guy, varied with his opinions on some stuff, but good class all around. He said "Now we can't spend all day doing what-if scenarios or we won't be able to cover the material." Which is true, but without getting ridiculous some "what if" isn't a bad idea. Then it happened. When discussing use of force in your dwelling a guy in sweatpants and a flannel shirt raises his hand:

"Now Dan, if I got me a place on da beach. And I got me a tent on da beach....and a guy walks in to my tent with a molotov cocktail....can I shoot him?"

Funniest question I've ever gotten during a CCW class was from a man with a pretty good size beer gut.  He wanted to know, if he was open carrying in the front of his pants, and his belly hung over his belt and covered up the gun, would that be open carry or concealed carry?

I didn't know what to say.

Is the class requirement still 8 hours total?  I know it was when I took the class 3+ years ago, but I've had people who took a CCW class recently tell me that theirs lasted about 4 hours total.

That didn't sound right to me, but I couldn't find class length or round count requirements in any of the Missouri Revised Statutes.  I am still curious so if anyone could point me to those requirements in the laws, I'd appreciate it.

Lol Duke. Did you ask him to demonstrate his gut holster?

Yes, RSMo 571 Missouri Weapons Law tells all you need to know about CCW requirements.

(9) A live firing exercise of sufficient duration for each applicant to fire a handgun, from a standing position or its equivalent, a minimum of fifty rounds at a distance of seven yards from a B-27 silhouette target or an equivalent target;

(10) A live fire test administered to the applicant while the instructor was present of twenty rounds from a standing position or its equivalent at a distance from a B-27 silhouette target, or an equivalent target, of seven yards.

Then goes on to say you must hit the scoring portion of the target with 15 out of 20 rounds.

NOT sure how I could MISS the BLACK part of a B-27 while standing still at 7 yards!
I could throw the rounds by hand and do that!

because of safety concerns I will neither confirm nor deny that I can qualify for a MO CCW while blind folded... That being said I have seen people miss a B-27 at 7 yards, usually people that have either had no instruction or just weren't ready for live fire...
