Prior veteran here (in the event that helps, last time I checked it did). What is the most cost effective way to file for your CCW. As I understand it my prior service cuts some steps out. Anywhere online to get the documents to fill out? Just looking for the easiest route to go, yes I know there is a long wait.

Thanks for anyone that can provide information / links.

Your prior service (must be honorably discharged and provide copy of DD214) will get you past the "demonstrate competency with a firearm" part of the process.

There are NO online sources for the application itself. You can however order online and it will be mailed to you from Tallahassee.
Submitting your finger prints electronically (scanned) will save you a few bucks as well as processing time.

Where to get scanned (I believe there are other locations as well)
And as we all know, the process is backed-up and taking longer than it should.  So... emailing the Governor, writing your Congressman, stomping your feet, throwing an online hissy fit or, crying to your mom won't help get things done any quicker.

I'd also suggest that you pay the licensing fee with a U.S. Postal money order rather than a check.

My fiancee applied for her CWL by registered mail, receipt requested, in the middle of last December using electronic prints payed for online by credit card and payed the state fee by postal money order.

Her CWL was issued on 2/2/09.

Maybe doing it her way helped speed up the process, maybe it didn't.

Correction ...

You CAN now download your application as a .pdf and send that in instead.  BUT, you still need a fingerprint card if you plan to not use livescan.

FL CWL APPICATION .PDF LINK

I can tall you from experience my local PD will not do a livescan print if you don have a fingerprint card.  They should not need it for livescan but I gave up trying to get them to reason with common sense.

ETA:  Straight from the FL Dept of Agr Website :  "Persons serving in the United States Armed Forces may submit a copy of their Military ID Card to satisfy the training requirement"  I have a student that was no longer active and still sent a copy of his old ID and it worked just fine.

Hmmm. I certainly do not have my old ID card. DD214 works right?

Yup, DD214 works perfect.
