As a "Private" Citizen have you ever had to draw your weapon? What was the situation and what was the outcome and legal issues(if any) that arose?

On Blacks once, Hill top Tacoma, they were going to get in my slow loaded flatbed truck saw the gun and decided not such a good idea, On Mexicans once, in Pasco and stranded, 2am, 4 or them went to get out of the car, I pulled and yelled like a little girl, they saw, and figured not such a good idea. Both times I was shitting bricks. You can tell when someone is going to kill you.

Shot at a dog once but not to kill.

Shot many neighbors dogs on the farm chasing cattle or horses.

Confronted a prowler on the farm when I was 14 with my 870.

Over the years I have put my hand on the handle ready to draw more than I would like to admit. Many times it was because of dogs but also two legged creachers that roam.

Better to have something than nothing.

HAD to? Once. I fully believed the other parties intended to end my life. When they became aware I would use my weapon, they "left".

No legal issues arose as I was just as willing to be rid of them, as they were willing to leave. But I don't like to discuss it, even in person, as legal issues are not always predictable.

I'll tell my stories. I have pulled twice. Almost shot one of the times. Both incidents happened when I lived in Kentucky.

Story #1

The first one I had just started carrying. We lived in the middle of nowhere in western Kentucky. MsK called me and told me that the UPS guy was just pulling into our driveway when she left, and that she had left the dog inside. Our UPS guy was pretty cool and would leave packages inside any vehicles in the driveway(we didn't lock our vehicles, and usually left the keys hanging in the ignition). That way it wouldn't rain on our packages. Anyways, I come home about 11:00pm that night, Pitch dark outside, especially around our place being so far out in the sticks.

I walk up the walkway to the front door. We had a car parked in the yard right in front of the front door. I opened the door to get my package, then my dog came running up to me from around the side of our trailer. I looked at him kind of odd, expecting him to be inside the house like MsK had said he was. I turn around to the front door(has the little window near the top). I see a man staring out the window at me. I drop the package and start to draw. The door flings open as I am bringing my pistol up. I see a half naked man with his hands up yelling "Don't shoot!!".

Turns out it was my brother in law that lived next door. He had come to our place to take a shower since he was doing laundry at his place. He couldn't do laundry and take a shower at the same time because he wouldn't have hot water...... Had a good laugh at that one later

Story #2

Had dropped the kids off with grandma and grandpa so MsK and I could go out to a movie. We got home about midnight. Had to drive by our place to get to my in-laws house. When we drove by our trailer, MsK said "There is someone in our driveway!" I went past the in-laws and turned around. Went speeding into our driveway with the high beams on. Sure enough there were 2 scrubby looking guys. One was at my front door with the screen door open. The other was standing next to a '66 chevy truck I had parked in the driveway. He was doing something, but I couldn't tell what. I pull up, jump out and draw my handgun, but kept it down by my side where they couldn't see. I hollered out "What are you guys doing in my driveway?" Just then a third scrubby looking guy came out of the darkness from the far side of the trailer. I wasn't going to have a 3 on 1 fight, with my wife sitting in the vehicle next to me. I brought up my handgun and asked again WTF were they doing. The guy coming from the side of the house hollered out "It's me, Shane"(my brother in law again).

Turns out his buddies had come to our place thinking it was his house. The one at the front door was knocking, and the other one was taking a piss down the side of my '66 chevy. Afterwards I decided I should have shot that guy.

The closest I've gotten so far.  I apologize for the image quality and readability, but it's easy enough to read for most folks, I think.
