I would like to know where and how to sign up for a CCW class so I can get my permit? I would also like to know if anybody wants to sign up with me? |

Whereabouts are you? I know the NRA range up here in NOVA gives one every month. However, it costs $100, which is a bit pricey compared to what’s available at other places. (It goes beyond the minimum state requirements and includes one hour of range time with an individual instructor, which I suspect most members of this forum don’t need.) And the NRA’s class fills up quickly – I believe they’re scheduling for their May class right now. As I understand it, some other instructors simply give a couple of hours of instruction in a hotel suite or such, which apparently meets the state standards. Also, FWIW I’m getting the impression the VA Tech shootings have spurred other folks into getting their own CCW’s, so it might be a good idea for you to get going on this ASAP! Good luck! |
It would help to know where you are in the state. Some gun shops hold classes, I know Bob's in Norfolk does. Keep in mind that you'll be around a bunch of people that have never handled a handgun before and someone will end up pointing a gun at you. If you've had the hunter safety course thats good enough to get the permit if you're comfortable enough to do it without a handgun class. |
Number is 703-267-1402, though there’s not always someone there to answer it (or alternatively, the range is so busy that they can’t answer it). They can give you the dates and whether or not the class is full. However, you’ll have to stop by the range in person to sign up for the class and to pay for it. Do this when they’re open to the public. The public hours vary - call 703-267-1400 for a pre-recorded message, which will give you the hours. They’re closed this weekend for a match, so I doubt you could sign up then. ETA: Blue Ridge Arsenal is slightly closer to you and might be offering something earlier than May. You might also want to see what they’ve got. |
I took one through Paul over a dozen years ago!! 1badf350, I'm trying to put together a class fo a bunch of friends (who have been bugging me) on May 11 - friday starting at noon at my home. I am an NRA Pistol Inst. - so this would be for the Basic Pistol Class (not a specific Concealed Carry class) which is sufficient for VA CCW rqts. I live in South Riding just south from you, and since this is for friends of mine - i am only charging for materials - which will go for you too. If you are interested (and if i could actually get organized in time!!) let me know and i'd be glad to have you. DD |
