I have skimmed thru the CCW booklet that a friend give me several months back and I can't find an answer so I will ask you here.
Is there a limit to what you can carry as ammo?
I was talking with a couple friends tonight about the possibility of getting our CCW and one of them mentioned that a so called instructer that he worked with told him that reloads are illegal to use in your CCW. I said I thought that was bunk and that there was no law against reloads that I ever heard of.
I have heard many guys say that their instructers have urged against using them for liability reasons but never heard of a law against it.

I have never heard of this before.  I think his instructor was smoking crack.

Another crack smoking "instructor!"  Next he'll be recommending Glaser Safety Slugs or other nonsense.

It's legal to carry reloads.  Stupid, but legal.  Get some reliable, factory Winchester Ranger-T in the appropriate caliber.

Not against the law.  A lot of people recommend not carrying reloads because of the whole making your own super ammo, but a good shoot is a good shoot.

no problem in carrying handloaded ammo. Dude's smoking crack.

I wouldn't reccomend carrying extremely hot loads because I would not trust my life to something that's running with such a slim safety margins. Not to mention the increased flash/recoil from hot loads.

As far as just carrying your own because they're cheaper or more accuarate I would say go for it. I doub't anyone is going to throw a fuss of the fact that you made your own ammo. If that reasoning held any water then every guy that assembles/makes/modifies thier own defensive firearm would be in trouble.

Thanks for the input guys, I had never heard of it being illegal but I thought I'd ask. We were talking about having good luck with accurate loads in .38 spl. and .357 mag using Hornady XTP bullets when it was brought up what one of the guys was told by the so called instructer.
I personally have some PMC Starfires and some Federal Hydra-shoks so I'm set when the time comes.

as the others said, ..there is no law prohibiting it..

...maybe what the instructor was trying to say is that many manufacturers will void warranties if you put handloaded ammo through it.
